Having full fibre should be more reliable than your old copper line.

Not doing it now will only put off the inevitable change, as Openreach will start decommissioning copper lines around 2030.

Just use your old Plusnet Hub Two, and connect it to the new Openreach ONT using the ethernet cable that came with the new router.

Just signed up with Plusnet to move over to fibre next month. I all ready have there new Plus2 router set up and working with Plusnet. Plusnet say they will supply a new router, When BT come to set up the fibre can they use the router I have as it’s same as the new one. It would save me loads of hassle resetting all the Amazon Alexa’s, IPads, Phones etc. I’m begging to think I may have made a mistake switching to Fibre, All help and advice appreciated

THANKS

It would be illuminating to know what reason they gave for this, should you call them.

I did tell them I had this router, but they said they would send a new one , what I don’t want is the person coming to install the fibre fitting a new router. I just don’t want all the issues resetting all the iPads, phones etc if this is the case I will call up and cancel having fibre fitted ASAP. Thanks for the help.

When BT come to set up the fibre can they use the router I have as it’s same as the new one.

Yes, just disconnect the DSL cable and connect the Hub 2 WAN port to the ONT with a cat5e(or better) ethernet cable.

It would save me loads of hassle resetting all the Amazon Alexa’s, IPads, Phones etc.

Of course, you can just change the wireless name(SSID) and password on the new router to match those of the old one!

edit: seems others type much faster than me

I also get that the Ethernet cable wasn't supplied with the original router - so, why not just send a cable, although the OP probably has one anyway.

The connection guide is surely available online? If not, it should be.

@jab1 "@MisterW Why, when @denwyn already has a Hub2, would PN need to send a new one? I'm confused."

It could just be industry "best practice", i.e. if @denwyn was one of the earliest adopters of a Hub Two from circa 2021, there might be a cut off whereby a new router is automatically sent as part of each order.

It's like whenever you get a new device with the same cables as before. Some people will just use the old cables to avoid having to mess around the back of a cupboard and replace them. Whereas, best practice is to replace each time with the new ones or they end up being 10/20/30 years old.

On more than one occasion, I've spent all afternoon trying to figure out what's gone wrong and realise it's an old cable that's failed on a 'new' device because it wasn't replaced.

This was been raised with the business some time ago.

BT took a much more sensible approach when I updated a friend to FF a tear or so ago. As their records showed that they had the correct Hub on their current FTTC service, BT simply posted out a red ended Ethernet cable.
