topic HomePlugs between ONT and HubTwo? in Full Fibre

Would that work? Hoping to use this idea for a remote rellie I help out, hence can't test in advance.

The goal is to relocate the Hub Two to a more central location where the WiFi covers his whole house. He currently has 0 or 1 bar of WiFi at the back of the house.

Running Ethernet is not feasible.

I'd would suggest use a Home Plug from the Hub 2 to the middle of the house,
much better to end up with Wi-Fi from two points and important to keep the Hub and ONT direct connected.

https://www.screwfix.com/p/tp-link-tl-wpa7517-kit-dual-band-av1000-powerline-adaptor-kit/793rn

That's a possibility, but I'd prefer to keep it with just the HubTwo if that works.

Also saves the cost of new TP-Link lit, as I already have a pair of AV1000's.

@markv you need to take the claimed speed of homeplugs with a large pinch of salt. For instance AV1000 plugs may claim up to 1Gb but in reality they will not achieve effective speeds better than 150Mb.

So connecting the ONT using homeplugs will limit the internet access speed of all devices. Using @PhilipHeyes s solution only restricts speed to those devices using the Homeplug wifi.

If you split the ONT and the Hub 2 with AV1000s your next post on here is likely to read :

I am paying for a 900Mbps service why can I not get past 100Mbps

In that case it might be worth a try.

Are the mains sockets supplying the ONT & Hub 2 on the same electrical circuit ?

If they aren't, you may well find you are limited even more , especially if the circuits are on different RCDs. I've seen it below 25Mb in those situations.

So theoretically yes you can. But don’t be disappointed if the performance Is disappointing. Personally, if you really can’t run Ethernet I’d invest in a mesh system.

I really would avoid Powerline devices. In my experience they significantly reduce the network speed. A wired backhaul to a wireless point is well worth any wiring costs/inconvenience.

All acknowledged. Horses for courses though.
This chap’s online needs are very modest; check email twice a day and occasional web browsing.

Big benefit to him if we move his Hub such that he can get a signal in both the rooms he’d like to use the Internet in. If it works, speed is not an issue.

I was primarily asking to see if the ONT<->Router link was theoretically possible over HomePlug, and I’m hearing that it is (with reservations!).
I’ll try it out next time I visit him (not imminent).

Thanks folks.

@markv I'd say definitely worth trying, it will only take a few minutes, assuming your HomePlugs are already paired and tested.

I'm on SOGEA not FTTP but get over 60mbps connection so not dissimilar to the 75mbps under discussion.

I have multiple HomePlugs due to an inconvenient house layout vs BT overhead cable route. BT AV600 type and very "old school" 1960s house wiring but they work quite well. I even have a 40metre (approx) armoured power cable to an outbuilding at the far end of the garden and I have a HomePlug there. That gives almost 50mbps on a speed test there using WiFi to an iPhone!

So I'd think, unless the house wiring is an obstacle, it should work well. There may be a little education needed about resetting (power cycling) the HomePlugs when they stop working properly.

I have used HomePlugs on an old-fashioned 20up/80down line with a PC at the end of a pair of TP-Link AV1000 HomePlugs. Tested yesterday at 75.7 Mbps

Just lucky I guess.
