Hi Folks,

I've upgraded from FF 140 to FF 900 today, over Wi-Fi I was getting the full 140 Mbps under my old plan, today I'm maxing out at around 250 Mbps. When I connected a ethernet cable from the bedroom my Plusnet router is in, to my desktop PC across the landing I get the full 900+ Mbps.

It isn't practical for me to have a long length of cable between two bedrooms, and my PC's Wi-Fi card is capable of handling the speed, so what is the potential problem?

My Wi-Fi card is a 9 month old Cudy WE3000 AX3000 Wireless WiFi 6 PCIe Card - Speeds: Up to 2402 Mbps on 5GHz and 574 Mbps on 2.4GHz.

This lack of speed has me puzzled, I've move the antennas on the Wi-Fi card in different direction but this hardly makes a difference, and I've upgraded the cards drivers but this has not improved performance.

If you have a Hub Two it is only WiFi 5.
You need a WiFi 6 or better router to achieve faster WiFi speeds.
You will need to buy a third party router.

I'm on full fibre 900 and with the Hub Two using a Wi-Fi 6 certified laptop I can get just over 500mb but I have to be practically sitting on the router in the hallway to get it, if I go to the kitchen or the livingroom which is only a few feet away I get around 250-350 depending on interference etc, Via Ethernet which my main PC uses i get the full 900+

So the Hub two is capable of 500mb just that it's range is not very good, so I would recommend getting a third party Wi-Fi 6 router that has better range if going via Ethernet is not an option.

I have a Wifi 6 capable laptop, when using a Wifi 5 router (not a Hub 2 btw) it would max out at around 400Mb. Using a Wifi 6 capable router gives around 750Mb.

Thank you for your replies, could you suggest Wi-Fi 6 routers that are reasonably priced and suitable for working with Plusnet?

Thanks in advance.

I believe the FritzBox 7530AX meets your needs. A well regarded router though you'd need to look online for the full specs. I use the non WiFi6 version on my PN account. Second hand from £52

Apologies for the late reply.

Thank you all very much for your kind help, I've just ordered the Fritz! box from CEX, looking forward to it's arrival.

I will be back to update you on the results of adding the Fritz box to my FF 900 connection in due course.

Many thanks again!

When I bought my 7530 from CEX it was the router of choice for Zen Internet and they had a good help page for settings required for Full Fibre. I also found the users manual on the FritzBox site and down loaded that.

What you need to do first is a factory reset in case the router is an ex Zen unit. The reset is software controlled - there is no button to press.

If you want to remove the Zen software, have a look at this
https://www.geekzone.co.nz/forums.asp?forumid=85&topicid=148507

It worked for my 7530, don't know about the 7530ax.
