Full fibre upgrade I don't really need or want

I need to renew my contract as we have landline phone at present which we are prepared to loose but we are only being offered full fibre not FTTC

My problem is that the existing line comes overhead from a telegraph pole to the front corner of the house then it is clipped along the soffit towards the back of the house about 20 foot then runs in through an airbrick down the cavity 10 foot to terminate in our master socket in the garage below

My existing router is backs onto the garage in the kitchen.

There is nowhere handy where the overhead cable meets the house that I want an internal box.

Will the install guy's work with me? I would / could run the new cable for them to where it is now.

Is the wire from the ONT to the router just ethernet cable.

My experience of change over engineers (gas conversion, smart meters etc) is bish bash bosh quick as you can to get to the next job. What do you think my chances are?

Yes. You can use up to 100M of CAT5e or better Ethernet cable.

Have a look at the following

A good installer will try to work with you but it's often a case of the desirable against the possible. You need to look at every possible location for the internal ONT box. It needs to be near a power socket. As the router conencts via ethernet cable it can go anywhere you're happy to run said cable.

What does the following say about he FTTP install (below the results window) and what does it say to the right of WBC FTTP>

OK - it's showing as a "1 Stage" install but states "hoist required"

Basically OR are not expecting any problems, just a difficult access. It's one of those you'll not really known until the day of install as to what happens.

The pole has a slight lean on it that is why a hoist is required, I will have to arrange the installation and see what the engineers say when they arrive.

Follow up

Before the Openreach engineer arrived I ran a conduit from the barge board (where the overhead wire arrives at our house) into our floor boarded loft, there I fitted a board to the wall and a electric power socket. From this board I ran a 10mtr cat 8 cable down through the house to our kitchen, terminating by the router.

When the engineer came his only worry was fixing his ladder against the corner of the house. ( I didn't have any trouble doing it 🙂) Luckily the elevated platform driver agreed to back up our drive solving that problem.

Both of them were really obliging and they made a very neat job fitting both the CSP and the ONT in the loft.

Excellent news. Looks like you got a couple of "good" engineers.

Can you post images of the external conduit you ran and then the board in the loft with the CSP and ONT on it. Might help others who are pondering how to install full fibre.
