Hello. Having to move to FTTP due to Plusnet FTTC contract ending soon. Live in a flat and not sure if the engineer would install the ONT box well away from the front door. No convenient power socket near the front door. Does anybody know if the ONTs that are supplied can be powered over the ethernet cable? Other option would be to use a long 12 volt rated extension cable from the power adapter.

You need to talk to the installer on the day, they will run up to 10m of fibre from the outside CSP to the ONT provoding that it doesn't require passing through internal walls.

As an aside, I have successfully powered an ONT over the Ethernet WAN cable using a TP-Link TL-POE150S Injector and POE 10R splitter. If there isn't a convenient mains socket, you could always present the installer with a mains extension lead to allow them to check out the installation using the official power supply.

@KDPN2015

Have a look at the following.

https://www.openreach.com/help-and-support/full-fibre-broadband-installation-checklist

The video isn't quite accurate in so much as the router is connected via ethernet so can go anywhere you're happy to run cable. It doesn't need to be near the ONT.

There is a certain leeway as to where the external CSP and the internal ONT is situated - you speak to the installer on the day to see what's possible aginst the desirable.
