The pole will have a Connectorised Block Terminal added to it. The fibre cable is plugged into this and run overhead to your property. They look like this. The number of ports depends on the number of properties being served.

There is leeway as to where the external Consumer Splice Point (CSP) goes as there is internally with the Optical Network Terminator (ONT). The latter must be within one metre of a power source.

Your router is connected via ethernet cable so can go anywhere you're happy to run said cable.

You discuss the options on the day with the installer. You should think in advance where suitable locations might be in relation to the point at which your current copper cable attaches to your property.

When the Checker is upadated to say FTTP is available unless it says KCI2 to the right no pre survey is done. There will also be a narrative about the install below the results window.

Note you lose your phone service if you still have one.

You could have a look at this. Note if the router is going elsewhere then only one power socket is required.

"FTTP Ready to order soon" Questions.

So about a week ago a new pole was installed just outside the boundary of our house. No cabling is fixed to it so far. I checked the Openreach checker and it is now saying for FTTP "Available to order soon" (Previously build planned for end 2026 or similar)

So it looks like when I can order - it will be a cable from the pole to the house. Main question is about options for where the cable will enter the house. I'm guessing the current location of the copper outlet will not be sutable, since it is not on an exterior wall. The wire actually enters the buiding in the garage and then is routed god knows where under plaster and/or brick work to get to where it is.

Plus - the pole is on the opposite side of the house from current locations.

So:

When I order - is there any sort of survey carried out to determine where it is best for the cable to be connected?

Will I have any choice in where it is brought in?

Anything else I should be aware of when having FTTP installed from a pole?
