Static IP Address carry over on Upgrade?

I realise now, having just gone through the process of upgrading and organising the engineer to do the install that Static/Fixed IP Addresses are no longer offered by plus net. I've seen posts where it is intimated that those with existing static IP addresses will keep them.

Will I lose my static IP by changing my contract, upgrading from unlimited fibre extra to fibre 300?

I may need to cancel my upgrade and look for services elsewhere on the openreach infrastructure as static IP is fairly instrumental in my usage.

Any help or guidance appreciated.

I assume you're going to Full Fibre.

Your static IP remains though you should keep a close eye on it after the upgrade. If anything goes wrong speak to PN asap as it can be sorted.

@sg86 Any current static IP allocation should remain on change-over. If, for some reason it appears not to, the Help Team staff on here can sort it.

The advice given by the users above is spot on, if for any reason it does not transfer along with the new connection, please feel free to come back to this thread and we can certainly reinstate your static IP.

I'm also looking to move to Fibre but the lady on the phone said that we were unable to keep our Static IP?

You, as others have been, were misinformed. If you have a static IP, it should carry over. If, for any odd reason it doesn't, a post on the forums requesting investigation will get it sorted.

Apologies for the misinformation, we can indeed switch over the static IP if you need us to do so, the only scenario we don't offer static IPS is for brand new customers.

I have just moved over to full fibre and I also had a static IP.

I can confirm that my static IP stayed in place

So does that mean 'old' customers who don't presently have a static IP can order one?

Lee, I think what @RobPN was clarifying is that you don't offer new static IP's to ANY customer. Neither new customers or existing customers who don't already have a static IP, can get one.

To illuminate this space a little…

If you do not already have one, you cannot now get a static IP address
Static IP addresses are attached to the user account, not the service
Static IP addresses remain with the account through upgrades and house moves
Sometimes through the above the IP address becomes detached - support can refresh the broadband component on the account to recover the static IP status … and the address should be the same
Something going wrong with a change could result in a new account - if the old one has static IP addresses … one should consult with support

Hi Townman,

I'm looking to change from ADSL to full fibre and have a static IP, was googling what might happen and read this.

Is your explanation still the case - get to keep the static IP I've had for years? Should I (somehow) mention when ordering that I want to keep the static IP?

The Static IP is assigned to the account, not the service received. You should automatically keep the address but it's always worth checking after you go live with Full Fibre.

There have been odd occasions where the address hasn't transferred but a phone call to PN as soon after the event as possible has sorted thigs out.
