Hub 2 on FTTP

Sorry if this is a silly question.

I'm finally getting FTTP next week. I currently have a Hub 2 router, which works just fine.

When everything is connected up is it just a matter of removing the DSL cable and putting the Ethernet cable from the ONT into the Red port on the Router, and rebooting or is there some other configuration needed to switch from DSL to ethernet.

In the future if I want to change router, I don't need an ADSL Modem router now and would a standard cable router do with no ADSL functionality.

Yes, the switch from whatever you are on now to FTTP is as you describe it.

If you decided to replace the Hub2 at some point, then you just need to make sure you bought one which could handle a fibre connection - I imagine most in the consumer market these days can.

Again correct, a cable router will be fine. As @jab1 says , just make sure its capable of handling the fibre throughput speeds , especially if you have taken the FF500 or FF900 product.

What are the throughout speeds of the Hub 2, particularly on wireless. I've gone for the 145 product as it was on a deal the same price as my FTTC 80/20

I was thinking more of the LAN-WAN (NAT) throughput, rather than wireless capability, it can become significant if the faster FF products are being considered. Wireless throughput depends so much on the local environment so any quoted figures should be taken with a (large) pinch of salt.

Just about any modern router should be able to handle a FF145 connection.

The Hub 2 is capable of handing the NAT thoughput of a FF900 connection but its wireless is only Wifi5 and therefore will max out at around 450Mb.

I have just had my full fibre upgraded from ADSL. As mentioned above, all that was needed was to remove the ADSL cable and plug an Ethernet cable into the WAN port on the Hub Two router and the ONT. There was a download, I think into the ONT as the router's software update date didn't change. The router disconnected and reconnected and I was on fibre.

The way I have got the setup now, there are no devices capable of running a speed test directly. The router's speed test doesn't seem to work. Most of the office devices are connected through a TP-Link AV1300 powerline extender and the others are on WiFi. The Fire Stick 4K gave the speed as about half what it was before switchover: 24Mbps compared with 60-something. For some reason, it is connected on 2.4GHz WiFi, not 5GHz, which may be part of the reason. The router is closer to it now. The office computer nearest to the powerline receiver gave me a speed of 50Mbps through Ookla Speedtest.net. That compares with 69Mbps beforehand, but that was a direct wired connection between the PCs and the router.

I don't know if the line speed will ramp up over time. I guess we'll see.

Next job, switch the landline to VoIP... Waiting for that to be disconnected first.

Update on the WiFi speeds, measured by the Amazon Fire Stick 4K: 148Mbps, Fire Stick (basic): 144Mbps. They're both on 5GHz now. I'm on the 145 package, so nothing to complain about there!

It could have been the ONT updating its firmware. The router certainly wouldnt update. The router would see the DSL connection drop, see a physical ethernet connection on its WAN port and then re-establish the PPPoE connection over the WAN port.

I don't know if the line speed will ramp up over time. I guess we'll see.

FTTP doesnt have a settling period ( despite what might say if you call in! ) , it goes at the provisioned speed immediately.

As for powerlines, I have a pair of Tplink AV1000s and they max out at around 150Mb even when on the same electrical circuit. Put thme on different circuits or via RCDs then they can go down to 25Mb!
