ahh ok so you do have an external csp.

they should be able to open the csp, unspool some fibre and lower the ont on the inside. The fibre inside is too short! mine was only one cm longer than yours

you will have two old holes which can be plastered though and painted over where the existing ont placement is.Even if you choose not to move the ont get the OR guys back and give you some more fibre

Previous thread:

https://community.plus.net/t5/Everything-else/Full-Fibre-installation-location/td-p/2005927

The interior install I asked for was a cable to be run down from drill hole, into box sited 50cm off the floor concealed by furniture, was told this wasn't possible so I ended up with what is pictured (using 1.5m ethernet which I'll replace with 1m white one, 0.5m was too short).

Can't say I'm entirely happy with the result, I realise there was no choice for the drill hole due to external electric box blocking lower entry but internally it's not great, am due DIY visit from friend A so asked friend B (an IT professional) for recommendations on how to tidy up cables. I suppose I'll get used to it.

This is the pitfall of not knowing details in advance which I mentioned in previous thread as a concern.

Given that the entry point was decided by external considerations that's fixed.

However, I see no reason why the ONT could not have been situated to the right of the power socket. There might be a minimum distance required for power interference - others will comment I'm sure.

If you complain about the install (use teh form on the OR website) you might get someone back to move the ONT.

I'm definitely not good at diy 😂
My IT friend has suggested wall mounting router, a custom length ethernet cable or trunking.
I'd actually be fine with trunking but for that to be tidy (straight) I'd need to see if OR would return to move ONT towards the right, which would surely then leave me with a defunct drill hole to sort out 🤷🏼‍
What an absolute pain!

First thing to do (today) is to complain to OR about the install. If they are happy to come back and move the ONT then you can look at tidying things up. Don't do anything until this is sorted.

It's not that simple I live in rented property, it's my responsibility to make good any work so I have to weigh up what is absolutely necessary and what's a "nice to have".

Right now I'm not inclined to leave myself with a defunct drill hole to sort out.
I have a chronic illness and as such need to choose my battles carefully.

While I fully appreciate the suggestion and have absolutely taken it on board, my thoughts are the ONT is installed, it is where it is, now I need to try and improve things internally.
I've ordered a 1m white ethernet cable and will use the twist ties to try and straighten out the two cables.

That is a bad install. the internal fibre cable shouldn't be that short. You said its an internal csp install so it should a case of them unraveling about 1m of fibre cabling.

it should be at the most 10 to 20 minute of work. As for the two holes - hopefully a friend or family member could help and plaster up the holes for you and micro paint plaster for you.

You stated the incoming fibre is where is it due to external clutter. As such if OR do come round, just ask for it to remain where it is.

It's the ONT that needs moving. Would leave a couple of small screw poles to be patched. OR may well have white sealant which would do the job in the first instance.

I would use a hub wall bracket (about £7 from EBay and mount the hub between the power sockets and ONT.

I would suggest using both 13A sockets. It looks like you are using an extension lead with a short cable such that the socket block is hanging down from the plug, The weight of the loaded socket block looks like it is putting strain on the cable clamps. This is very bad practice.

From the external picture I would leave the incoming cable where it is. As you say it can't go any lower and, to an extent, is nicely tucked "away" in the corner inside.

The ONT can (and should have!!) been installed lower than it is. Given the power socket appears higher than normal it's just possible you could get the ONT installed below this level to make it more out of sight. If not, then along side the socket.

As stated, you'd then have two screw holes to deal with. The OR bod might have sealant with them and, once hardened, a quick sand down and it's ready for painting sometime.

I know its not part of your complaint, but make sure the photos show how short the fibre cable is.
