FTTP Network stability issues

First post here so please bear with me. Had FTTP installed last month and I've noticed that when I'm gaming with my Xbox or on Google meet for work there's an occasional stutter. I setup BQM and it seems that I'm seeing a fair amount of packet loss and issues with latency. Both the Xbox and MacBook for Google meet are connected over ethernet.

Is this to be expected with FTTP, or could it indicate a fault? Struggling to diagnose as it's not continuous, but instead comes and goes.

I've tried my connection with the Plusnet Hub 2, and an Eero Pro 6. I've tried the Eero Pro 6 in PPPOE mode, and bridge mode using the Plusnet Hub to do the PPPOE but sadly nothing seems to fix it which makes me think it could be an an issue with provisioning on Plusnet's side?

Hello, a warm welcome to the forums.

I would not expect FTTP to exhibit this behaviour and would more suspect a hot VLAN from the exchange, especially as there is a deal of packet loss during periods of (apparently) minimal use of your connection.

I suggest that in the first place you raise a fault report advising of reported marked packet loss. I doubt that a fault will be found on the link itself, but it would be wise to check.

I have run a test on your line and it's not flagging a fault. Can you go through the troubleshooting parts here and then use the text service it links you to in order to raise a fault.

Yeah all of that packet loss was while everyone was out of the house, with nothing running so was surprised to see it! Have raised a ticket with Plusnet so will see what happens!

For the BQM what device is the target? The Hub Two or something else?

Currently the last 12 hours look normal

@camchalmers that does look like a very unusual TBB graph, to me it shows a very busy amount of traffic for the first quarter, then as you say packet loss when there is very little traffic.

Putting either router in bridge mode in your circuit is not needed and adds to the complexity, you just either directly connected to the ONT with PPOE details.

However two questions, is TBB pinging the first router connected to the ONT/

And what bandwidth is your circuit/service?

Oh and a third, do you see a full 1GB connection reported between router and ONT on the router?

Targeted at the Hub 2. Yes seems much better today, but seems to come and go. Last week was fine, and then the last two days were awful. Been a bit difficult to diagnose

Yes I realised it added complexity, but wanted to just try all setups to cancel out any equipment issues.

Yes, it's pinging the Hub 2 at the minute as that's the router connected to the ONT. It's a 1000/110 service.

Yes, the WAN link speed is 1000mb, unless I should be looking somewhere else?

FTTP is to the exchange. I expect (do not know for sure) that there is traffic agitation per ISP, depending on the back haul capacity. There being a distinct connection back from the exchange for FTTP would seem overly complex. Content to learn my expectations are flawed!
