New FTTP very slow

Upgraded to FTTP done today.

At the moment the download speed is less than 3 yes 3 Mbps. Upload is 19 Mbps. I used to get 45Mbps on the old FTTC.

Will it improve or should I ask the engineer to come back?

That does not make sense - did the installer not verify the connection was good before they left? Which port on your Hub is the ONT connected to?

The ONT is connected to the router WAN port as it was before. I never saw the installer carryout any tests.

Is this a wired test ? i.e device connected via an ethernet cable to the router

If you were previously on FTTC, you should not have been connected to the WAN (red) port on the Hub

@bikeman can you try a wired test just to prove whether its the connection or a wifi problem ?

@bikeman so what connection did you have before ? and from which ISP ?

What router were you using before ? and what router now ?

so you had FTTC before ( that looks like an HG612 VDSL modem ) and you've changed to FTTP

Is the router the same actual router ?

If you go to the router troubleshooting -> helpdesk page , does it show your correct username ( and not setup@plusdsl.net ) ?

I dont want to be rude but I did say in my OP and subsequent posts, that the upgrade was from FTTC to FTTP, using same hub 2 router.

I've used the Plusnet bot, which has confirmed that there is a fault. This is very poor.

I know I said I was leaving this to @MisterW , but I am confused.My understanding is that the PN bot does not work on an FTTP connection, and I am a little surprised, to say the least, that the installer didn't confirm the connection was stable before leaving.

Apologies, I see you did say you got 45Mb on FTTC. As to the router, Plusnet usually insist on supplying a new router with FTTP. Since you are only doing wireless tests, in confirming whether it was the same physical router, I was trying to rule in/out a new router using a different wireless channel.

I've used the Plusnet bot, which has confirmed that there is a fault. This is very poor.

As @jab1 says, the installation engineer should have confirmed the connection was working before leaving. As to having a fault which gives low download speed but good upload on FTTP. I'm intrigued, because FTTP usually works at the provisioned speeds or it doesnt work at all!

One cause seen for low download is where the Plusnet account isnt active and the Hub is still using the setup id. Since this is an upgrade on the same account, that shouldnt be a possibility!.

Is the PON light on the ONT steady and the LOS light off ?

NB don't let support fob you off with the 'leave it for 10 days whilst the line settles' , that's rubbish for FTTP , there is no training period , it goes at the provisioned speed immediately.

Unfortunately many people get confused between Fibre (FTTC) and Full Fibre (FTTP). When trying to help forum members generally ask for clarification as to exactly what service your receiving and what equipment you're using.

They then may be in a position as to offer advice.

Two bits of advice have already been offered. Use a wired connection to test your speed. PN only guarentee the speed received at the ONT and not any subsequent WiFi signal.

Secondly you were asked to check you router admin page to see what login PN are receiving. If it's "setup" rather than your id this can cause problems.
