using BT router and discs with new pusnet FTTP

I'm moving from BT FTTC to Plusnet FTTP (500 mbps - hopefully) next week. I currently have the latest BT router and 3 discs and get OK coverage, just not the consistent speed for my gaming sons. Should I pay BT to keep the BT gear and repurpose it (I believe this can be done) or buy something like TP Link Deco X20 AX1800 (3 pack) for about the same price? Only having 500MBPS - do I need to go any better that these 1800's? I don't think any of my devices support 6e 6Ghz tech?

I'm stopping having the digital voice service from BT, though they are not asking for the 2 digital phones back. What would I need to do to use them with my new Plusnet broadband?

Any advice greatly appreciated.

If your devices are only Wifi 5 , then the maximum you are likely to achieve is around 350 to 400Mb.

Plusnet are not providing a digital voice service so you can not use the phones. In fact AFAIK the BT digital phones will ONLY work on BT digital voice anyway.

You can spend an arm and a leg buying top of the range wireless equipment but the most reliable way to achieve the maximum performance available from your Internet connection is to install Ethernet cabling. It’s a pain but it’s also relatively cheap and only has to be done once.

Assuming you have a BT Smarth Hub 2 then yes, it and its paired discs can be used on a Plusnet connection with some minor reconfiguration.

As you're moving from FTTC to FTTP though, then you may need to toggle FTTP mode on in the Smart Hub 2 web interface; this repurposes the fourth LAN port as a WAN port that you'd then cable to the Openreach FTTP ONT.
