Connection drops out in the evening

I appear to have a problem with the internet in the evening. I would guess it's most apparent around 8pm 'ish. Last night we gave up watching streamed TV as a result.

I thought I would investigate this morning to see if there are any planned outages, e.g. for maintenance, but I can't get the service status page (https://plusnet.servicestatus.net/plusnet/status) to load, it just times out. Other websites are fine.

Can anyone shed any light on what is happening? Thanks.

@Jawoc First question - are you actually on Full Fibre, or Fibre To The Cabinet?

Planned maintenance is not performed at peak times - usually between 0100-0600.

OK. I'll leave this to others, then. Not up to date on FF, but just one question - are you doing anything else at the time, watching TV alone, especially on FF, shouldn't have this effect?

One of the kids may well have been using their smart phones for social media etc, but I can't imagine that would present any problem for the connection. I certainly can't think of anything as bandwidth intensive than the streaming TV we were trying to watch. It's not the first evening that this has happened either.

Fair enough - was just a thought, but as you say, that shouldn't cause problems - I can have two laptops and an iPad running happily on a 40/10 FTTC connection.

ICBW, but I suspect that, as has turned out to be the cause in numerous other threads, that there will be nothing wrong with the connection, but that WiFi will be once again demonstrating its shortcomings.

It has crossed my mind as well. I think this weekend I shall run a temporary network cable to the TV to see if that cures the problem.

Good point, Rob - the thought had crossed my mind. Suppose it depends how far the TV is away from the Hub.

The hub is approx 5-6 metres above the TV (terraced house, hub is upstairs in front room near the bay window, TV is downstairs in front room near the bay window).
