e mail address on upgrade to FTTP

Hi, long term FTTC user (via Force9) usually happy with the 55 Mbps from fibre extra

On recontract earlier this year although Trooli had installed Fibre outside it wasn't on offer with Plusnet so stayed Fibre extra the new Hub 2 router has appeared to fix the 5GHz wifi issues but down load speed dropped and seems "flakey".dropping to 20Mbps now and then 50 max.(using speedtest.net or fast.com

Plusnet sent Cube man who reset DLM but little change so thinking Plusnet FTTP is now available and may be a better option.

Before I contact CS a few queries if anyone has definitive answers for more fault finding/options

1 understand I loose landline but not a problem as little used

2 Will my "name@username.force9.co.uk" email address continue on FTTP

3 When I look at FTTP upgrade minimum product (as I'm not a gamer etc only work from home and Sky TV) is 100 but "guaranteed 49" which is no better than i used to have before on FTTC what's realistic?

4 assume Hub 2 remains needing WAN back to Fibre incoming. - I currently have CAT5 external extension from 5C socket due to incoming line location.

Thanks for any responses

1. Yes you lose your landline number

2. No, you will also lose your email address and the account and all it’s contents will be deleted so you need to transfer out anything that you want to keep before you upgrade

3,Ignore the minimum speed you are unlikely to get significantly less than the maximum.

4. To get greater than 100Mbps you need CAT 5E as a minimum.

Sorry to disagree, but email addresses will be retained, if an FTTC account is upgraded to FTTP.

Email is only lost if someone decides to close their FTTC account and sign up a brand new FTTP account from scratch.

That sounds positive.

Like many I guess i have a huge number of accounts etc linked to the current email address ( and probably very few to the land line.

I'll discuss options with CS but if a more solid connection and possibly 100Mbs is available for the same pice it sounds a better option than trying to "fix" the FTTC.

Strangely ( or maybe not) looking back issues started as contractors started adding fibre to poles and threading in manholes so not sure they haven't disturbed a connection somewhere as happened a couple of years back.

So as long as Gandalf is 100% correct and "name@username.force9.co.uk" is retained (do Outlook settings need tweaking?

As an aside i do use Wi-Fi calling from my Vodafone mobile so again I assume that's fine...

I'll check the extension its currently 2 wire for modem so new RJ45s as minimum unless fibre can be routed better?

Thanks all

I'll update as and when.

Unless I'm missing something Trooli has their own fibre optic network. As such, PlusNet won't use it as things stand.

You can check the OpenReach network here. You need to see WBC FTTP in the left hand window.

@charliecambs

WBC FTTP is shown as Available so you can FTTP from any ISP which uses the OR netwrok (including PlusNet). You appear to be one of the lucky ones who also has the choice of an Alternative supplier (Trooli).

So to go back to your first post.

1) Yes, you lose your phone number.

2) Your PN account should remain the same so I see no reason to believe you'll lose your force9 e-mail address. However, you might want to confirm that.

3) With PN you can get Full Fibre (FF)36, FF78, FF145 and even faster if required. With FTTP you should get close to advertised speeds as distance is not a consideration - so FF78 might be suitable. You can get faster speeds later if required.

4) There is some leeway in where the ONT is brought into your house but it needs to be near a power source. The OR engineer should work with you on location if it's possible. As the ONT is connected to your router via ethernet cable the router can go anywhere your'e happy running cable. Cat5e cable should do you - it's rated at the same speed as Cat6 but the latter has higher capacity. Cat6 is also far less flexible so doesn't do corners very well.

Thanks for your input.

I've been using the machine and occasionally chrome doesn't respond as fast as normal to new page.

I recently upgraded to fast i7 and its LAN to Hub 2 hence thinking machine not slowing performance.

When it seems slow I ran fast.com (CUBE engineer said best!), fast.com and speedtest.net and bt checker. they all seem to show long PING 1 at 150plus mS and slow download of 30 . retesting sometimes goes back to 19 ping 50 ish upload.

I have screen shots. The wife notices on her work machine occasional break ups on video conferences so I'm thinking intermittent connection somewhere but obviously router info shows (i assume) average over 12 days uptime as

Data rate 13/55, max 13/66 ?

Ill speak to them tomorrow but i'd hope for same price FTTP should be more solid and faster....

This was from logged in upgrade page....?

reading other posts though it seems almost impossible to retain number???

Are you sure you were looking at the offers and upgrades tab while logged in? The option to keep your phone line should only be available as a new customer. I’ve had a look at my account and can confirm this is the case but if you’re seeing different, what’s website address you were on at the time and would you be able to post up a full screenshot so I can investigate further?

As for your Force9 email addresses, if you upgrade your existing account to FTTP, these shouldn’t be affected.

It’s definitely worth calling our Customer Options Team on 0800 013 2632 to see what prices we can offer you.

oops.. Just looked at upgrade and you are correct no phone unless i go to FTTC.

I usually look to New customer offers to see what you can match, although like many others i never saw the £75 cashback . CS were supposed to confirm from call recording and get back to me but didnt. Another topic for the CS call

Bit concerned on "f you upgrade your existing account to FTTP, these shouldn’t be affected" Has anyone done upgrade to confirm this....

Sorry for the worry. I’ve seen numerous FTTC accounts be upgraded to FTTP and have email retained. However I’m reluctant to give you a 100% guarantee in case of the absolute smallest chance something goes wrong, due to the way Force9 email addresses in particular are built in our systems we would struggle to bring it back.

Ah sorry to see this. I’m not in the office now but let me take a look for you tomorrow when I’m in.

Hiya @charliecambs,

I've raised the cashback issue to my colleagues in our billing team and I've created a support ticket Here which I'll use to keep track of this for you. Once I've got a response from them, I'll let you know.

Hi sorry for delay response been out.

What format would FTTP email address be be ? I do have a gmail account to keep some mail separate but I'd need to back up all incoming mails anyway if I go FTTP.

I still seem to be seeing 30Mbps now and then but I'll continue to look. and raise a fault.

I currently have some good offers for alternative ISP to go FTTP so I need to talk to CS at the same time as this might be better all round than reporting fault. To be honest I like Force9 (18 years customer ) and we don't have a house full of gaming kids so more speed and reliability for same cost is my aim.
