Just checked and it looks like I'm back on Netflix UK. Fast.com is also showing UK location now. So hopefully everyone else is back to normal now. At least I got to watch some US only movies before it switched back

Evening,

New to Plusnet, been with them for 11 days without any issues, tonight both Paramount and Disney think that I'm trying to access their services from outside the UK?

The router hasn't rebooted and has been up from 11 days but running whatsmyip shows the following

ISP: BT Americas Inc.

Services: Datacentre

City: London

Region: England

Country: United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland

The only thing I can see is that the ISP is registering as outside the UK so those streaming providers think that I'm out of the country as Disney says I can see that you are travelling when I run the application.

Any advice apart from turning off the router for 15 minutes and hoping that it picks up a different IP?

Thanks

Some companies are slow to update their IP location data (and I have noticed a lot of these are US conglomerates).

You could try forcing a new IP, but Plusnets are rather sticky - an overnight switch off will have a greater chance of changing it, but still no guarantees.

@jab1 Thank you for the information, the question is now how do I stand with an ISP who can provide the service I have signed up for but I now have limited use of it due to others not having updated their systems with the correct IP information?

Also why has it taken 11 days for this to become an issue for me if the IP range was blocked why did I not encounter this as an issue from day 1 I've been happily watching things on both Disney and Paramount since the service went live?

As the issue is IP related who do I now approach to get it resolved or is it a case of wait and hope that it gets resolved or do I have to contact each provider and ask them to whitelist my IP address so that I'm able to access the service?

Would this not be something that the ISP should chase resolve and not leave it up to the individual as my contract is with them and I can't remember seeing in any of the literature come to Plusnet but don't expect everything to work as it did with your original ISP which in my case was BT.

Is the IP block assigned via ARIN, RIPE, APNIC (or some other minor concerns)?

I'm having to assume RIPE, and possibly data scraped from RIPE included the word 'America' and a bad assumption was forthcoming. Or perhaps the original assignment of the IP block was via ARIN? Insufficient data.

Exactly the same issue. We've been with Plusnet for a couple of years and have never had this problem before. It seems that something has changed today. Netflix and Paramount Plus both state that our IP address is located in the US. IP is 150.143.x.x. It seems that the whois data stating that this range belongs to BT Americas inc is the cause of the issue. I'm guessing that these services use the the same geolocation provider and they have updated the location for this IP range to the United States. Please can someone at Plusnet inform BT to get this sorted out. If it goes on much longer it will necessitate changing ISP.

It has possibly 'taken 11 days' because maybe your public IP changed sometime late Sunday or sometime on Monday due to your connection being reset for some reason - have you checked the router error log?

As I am self-taught (over a 30+ year period), there are 'gaps' in my knowledge, but AIUI, it is not an issue of 'getting the provider(s) to 'whitelist' your IP', rather for Disney/whoever to update their IP databases so that their records reflect the true country of registration - in this case, the UK.

It is not up to an ISP to ensure third-parties maintain correct records.

Have you turned off your router overnight, as I suggested above, to try and change your public IP?

Looks like i'm not the only one with this problem.

Just joined Plusnet on Friday and our broadband ip address is showing as being in Minneapolis, US. Have called customer support twice and first time I was advised that this is a known issue and I just need to factory reset the router until I get a UK ip address but after 25 factory resets i've given up. Second time I called they'd never heard of this issue and can't see any trace of it on the forums which is interesting as the last 2 posts are showing the same issue. Was advised to post here in case anyone knew how to fix it but can see posts dating back to 2014 with the same issue saying that the only way they could fix it was to get a static ip which apparently isn't an option anymore.

All of our streaming services are showing US libraries and giving US pharmaceutical advertisements, all my search engine searches give US responses, for example I google Tesco and only get results for Target and Wal-Mart.

We don't have a VPN and i've never had this issue with any other ISP.

IP address is 150.143.xx.

Have never had this issue with any other ISP before.

I'm having the exact same problems since yesterday evening (18/8/25) and looking at the forums, we're not the only ones. Unfortunately whilst the IP address is allocated by PlusNet and it's registered as a UK address, it appears the streaming services (Netflix and Disney+) are using outdated location information.

I suspect it's one of those that'll get batted back and forth with Netflix et al blaming the ISP and vice versa.

Having the same problem here, when using Fast.com as recmommended by Netflix, my IP shows as being in Minneapolis (?!). Every other IP query site I've checked shows it's in the UK.

I suspect this will be one of those issues where Netflix et al will blame the ISP even though it's down to them not having up to date location data for IPs.
