We have no mobile signal no fibre in our area and our copper wire broadband is useless, certainly not reliable enough for reliable VOIP. What happens when the our PSTN is removed ?

Why can't PN switch my existing PN Broadband to Fibre without disconnecting my BT phone line ? When I come as a new customer I get the option to say I can keep the BT phone line.

Also I do not have (yet) any alarm devices still relying on PSTN, but would like to keep for maybe another year the PSTN line.

Thank you

Markus

You should be able to renew existing contract and keep phone line.

There is a push for everyone to take FF where available seemingly.

There is a reason for the 'push', as you call it - the existing copper network has reached 'end of life', and is increasingly more expensive to maintain, so it makes sense to move as many as possible onto newer technology.

If you are on ADSL, and switch to Fibre, do you mean Full Fibre (FTTP) or part-fibre (FTTC). Can you post the full result fro here: https://www.broadbandchecker.btwholesale.com/#/ADSL , obscuring your phone number?

That screenshot says you are currently on FTTC, with an underground (part direct in ground) service, which will need extra work to enable FTTP - this needs to be fully ducted for FTTP. And FTTP does not come with a voice service.

terminating ADSL would terminate the phone-line

@jab1 If the ADSL broadband is with PLusnet and the phone service with BT, then terminating the ADSL SHOULDN'T cease the phone.

@mamoeller However, upgrading the PLusnet ADSL broadband account to Full fibre is likely to do a 'change of ownership cease' on the phone line and so remove any phone service.

i SUSPECT the best way forward would be to order Full fibre from Plusnet as a new customer, requesting the 'keep existing services with current provider' and then once the Full fibre is installed, cancel the ADSL broadband on the old account leavin (hopefully?) the phone service still live with BT.

TBH I'd consider moving the phone service to voip rather than retain the BT phone service. AfterFull fibre is installed , porting the phone number wil cease the landline and ADSL service anyway.

The down side of the new account option is that you would lose any Plusnet email facilities as well as any domains and webspace associated with the old account.
