I don't know, but I would imagine just powering on the ONT, when requested, should enable it, but you would have to confirm that with PN.

If you chose FF145, and then wished to 'upgrade', that would start another contract - the previous one would be 'written off'.

Hi, I'm in a 5-year old house that has FTTP since it was built. I know it did work as we had BT full fibre for the first couple of years. We then moved to Virgin so the ONT hasn't been used for 3 years or so. If I move to PlusNet will I need a new ONT (and cable) installing? Would it be replaced in the same spot? Or is it just a matter of powering on the existing ONT and plugging the router in?

Also, if I choose say FF 145 initially, is it possible to increase that during the contract - does that start another 2-year contract? There would be due no other charges to increase the speed?

Many thanks!

If you place an order for Full Fibre you must ensure the ONT is powered on. When OR are checking they will run a test to ensure there is a working ONT in situ.

If there is OR will accept the order and things should move quickly as no installation is needed.

It cost PN money to upgrade a conenction from OR so they need to new contract to cover the cost of requesting the increase.

As far as I know the cable is in place yes - at least, I haven't noticed any OR engineers come to take it away! And thanks for answering about the contract, I thought that would be the case.

Power it on and see what lights you have. Assuming the internal Fibre is still plugged in, you should get green power, green PON with LOS and LAN off

Yes it does have a battery, which is charging at the moment 🙂 Does it matter if the ONT is old? Will it need replacing? I am hoping not, so I can just plug the router in and get going quickly.

It shouldn't need replacing just because it's old. I have one of the old 4 LAN - 2 TEL port ONTs which is circa 10 years old and it's still working fine ATM, although I've never seen either of the TEL LEDs flashing.

Mine's from late 2017 - no problems at all. The BBU unit has AA batteries in it as far as I know so they may need replacing.

If you get a BBU unit for the router you at least have WiFi during the first hour of a power cut.

That's good to hear, thanks Brian. A BBU for the router is an interesting possibility - hadn't thought about that! Though power cuts are less frequent than they were on this new-build estate (touch wood) 😀

Just to complete this, I'm now connected to PlusNet, the old ONT is working fine (the TEL1 light is still flashing but maybe that's cos nothing is plugged in). I didn't even unpack the PlusNet Hub, just used my existing Linksys AX1800 (or MR7350) router and all is good. I am a happy customer 😊
