How long til full fibre

I noticed a fibre box has been installed on our phone line pole this week. Yet Openreach site still just says “between now and Dec 2026” . So how long is it before I might actually get full fibre and will I be notified?

@Mouldy It all depends on a lot of things - is the CBT an OpenReach one, or an alt-net? (you won't know unless you saw them actually putting it up, or noticed a lot of vans in the area), how big an area have they cabled up, how long it takes for testing/commissioning...

For me it took around 12 weeks from the time the CBT was installed to the street chamber to Full Fibre service to be offered. This timing would depend on how advanced the FF infrastructure build was when the close I live was visited.

@DJMcKenzie87 CBT = Connecterised Block Terminal - the boxes at the top of telegraph poles (or in underground chambers) that individual cables are run from, to your property.

I didnt see them do the box. It was some red platform lift that did some earlier work - thats all i know lol. There was a new green box exchange fitted at the end of the road about 3 months ago.

There are only about 5 or 6 houses attached to this post.

@Mouldy As Full Fibre/FTTP doesn't go anywhere near 'green boxes', that may be unrelated work. What does the output (from either of the links) give? If you can post a full screenshot of this (obscuring personal details, we may have a better idea.

A new green box on the street could well imply someone like CityFibre is installing in your area. Are there any road works installing new ducts on the main roads nearby?

Fibre was installed to the street as far as the bridge a few years ago but never made it beyond the bridge. That was by Virgin and was all im the ground with terminals going to each garden in the floor. I am in a small handful of houses over the bridge which are served by this one pole. All these 5 houses say fll fibre between now and dec 2026. The rest of the house to our right have no date set and are fed under ground. So hoping that our few houses on the pole are an easy hit maybe. I'll get a picture of the new box later.

I think you have an AltNet installing in your location.

You need to go searching online for "ultrafast" in your locality to see if you can come up with a name.

Finally got the notification that fibre is available. Sadly its from Virgin Media and i dont want to go with them as they progressively hike the prices and you only get the one email address.

Also dont relish the prospect of changing emails on so many banks, shops and websites.

So looks like I will remain as 70Mbits with plusnet

I dont see why Virgin can get away with the monopoly over gigabit. They claim its because of their own infrastructure but if one network couldnt talk to another then the internet wouldnt work at all.

TBH the only time I could do with slightly more is in MS flightsim 2024 when you fly anything over 200knotts, the streamed scenery cant quite keep up lol..
