Hostopia (ex Plusnet CCGI) Site Not Updating.

MY Plusnet ccgi site was migrated to Hostopia years ago. It doesn't work properly now and changes made to it on the Hostopia server can't be accessed via the domain name. There's no help available from Hostopia.

For instance I renamed the index.htm file to index_old and replaced it with a blank index.htm file a week ago but the website at http://mydomainname.co.uk is unchanged. Also the url http://mydomainname.co.uk/index_old.htm gives a not found message.

It used to work ok so something's been changed but I've no idea what. I've not updated it for ages so no idea how long its been like this.

I have found similar recently.

I have not used / accessed the CCGI space for a good while, but wanted to kick the tyres on something. I modified index.htm and was perplexed that it does not seem to work ... thought it was me ... have not had the time to revisit the detail to explore further.

Our incident and operations team are not aware of any issues regarding CCGI sites no updating but what I can do is raise a request to our operations team to investigate this issue for you however I would need a couple information from you before I can proceed, I have raised a ticket on your account with the required information.

by the way I was a bit amused to see you recommending me to use Web Chat (defunct these many years now) or Help and Support which as long as I can remember has never referenced the ccgi offering. 😉

so a month later I had a reply to say that something had been done to my cgi component but this hasn’t changed anything.

http://www.mydomain.co.uk/index.htm Still shows my original home page even though index.htm is now a zero length file.

http://www.mydomain.co.uk/index_old.htm (the previous index.htm) gives NOT FOUND.

Most of the files addressed by http://www.mydomain.co.uk/route_to_file also give NOT FOUND although they can be seen and addressed by the direct address on the server.

Perhaps it would be quicker if the support staff checked things themselves rather than just making changes and asking me to see if it helped?

I have gone ahead and updated our Net-ops team letting them know this did not solve the issue, along with your most recent comment so they can get a better idea of where the issue may lie.

I will keep in touch with @Marsh, as he was dealing with this initially to see if he had any further information.

He should hopefully be in on Monday.

As soon as I have a response I will update you, sorry if our responses up until now have been far between.

Regardless, they will look into this further to try and find the issue.

@Townman Has your issue been resolved or does it still seem to be the same?

Mine had moved on a little; I needed to do some further investigation.

I was encountering an error caused by something else, which searching around the forums suggested that the cause is the presence of a .htaccess file in the root directory.

Clobbering that (lines commented out)...

Options +FollowSymLinks -MultiViews # Turn mod_rewrite on RewriteEngine On #RewriteBase / #RewriteRule ^cgi-bin(/.*|)$ CGI-BIN$1 [L,NC] #SetEnv PHPRC /services/webpages/c/g/cgi.**************.plus.com/php.ini

...then allows the /public/index.php file to load ... and reflect changes to it.

I think that my initial problem might indeed be fixed ... but I have a good deal to do to understand what now might not work with the clobbered .htaccess file

Thank you for your help here. I note from tickets that Bob refreshed the cgi component. I had better do something useful with it!

Hi @LexLex2020 and @Marsh this is getting past a joke. It’s 6 weeks since I pointed out that my website isn’t working. It’s nothing that I’ve done because I’ve not touched it since you ported it. There’s no sign of anyone fixing it and no communication about what’s happening. It’s been part of my contract with PN (or Force9) for over 25 years and I’d hoped to get at least a little support for all the money I’ve paid you.

By the way I see from intoDNS that my nameservers are ns1.force9.net and ns2.force9.net and the PN equivalents. Does this mean that my site is still pointed to PN’s servers rather than Hostopia or something else?

Firstly I am really sorry for how long it has been since my last update. I usually work off getting an update back and use that to come back to you.

The Issue I raised initially on the 15th never got a response, so I have contacted them on that one and raised a new one too in case they for some reason cannot access it.

I am also going to attempt to contact one of the people who works on that team directly to get them to take a look at the task.

I promise to keep a closer eye to ensure it's not just being left behind, sorry again for how long this is taking.

There is not much point in me contacting anyone Saturday or Sunday for help with this as they only work Mon-Fri. So, on Monday I will find out the best people to ask about this and get them to action the task as soon as they can.

I will update you the second I have a response from them.

About the name servers you mentioned I hate to say but I really do not know enough about domains and DNS to give you a good answer.

Oops!!

My fault I'm afraid. Please call off the support guys who are presumably scratching their heads as to what's bothering me. Just a flash of lightening hit me and I've been making changes to the ccgi site and expecting them to magically appear on the website. I guess this has been some sort of age-related episode, after all I'm pushing 80 now.

And naturally the nameservers still point to Force9 - that's where the website still is, only the ccgi moved.

Looking for somewhere to hide my shame now! Thanks for your help!
