Plusnet community EE recommendation

I've been with o2 for 25 plus years but I find them increasingly difficult to engage with when there are problems so since I'm with Plusnet for broadband I'd like to ask how people get on with EE here....

I'm of the impression that most service providers are similar in terms of when things are working...most work ok. I'm more after what they are like if and when problems arise and their customer service quality and of course cultural and language barriers (as I've experienced with o2 on too many occasions these can be very challenging)

So the question is, is EE worth migrating to or is it better the devil you know?

Thanks

Do you use PN email addresses? If so, you lose them on the day you move.

Do you have a landline? If so, that goes when you move.

If you can wait until the end of contract have a look at ISP's like Zen who have a good reputation.

There are only 4 mobile carriers in the UK. EE,3,O2 and Vodafone. Choosing a different carrier will always depend on your area for coverage first. It you are happy with the O2 coverage, why not look at a MVNO, a mobile provider that piggyback one of the 4.

Look at uswitch.com for best value. You can even narrow it down to what network you want from the 4.
I am with ID who use the 3 network

When Plusnet Mobile closed down, I got a really good deal with EE... which is the same network Plusnet used to use, so the signal here remains good... yours might not, there's many sites out there that will tell you what your expected signal should be on the various networks.

In terms of service, my son has been with EE for a while, and he's never had issues, either technical, or with speaking to customer service.

EE isn't cheap though, compared to many others.

Yes, MVNO's (piggy-backing providers) are cheaper, but may not provide the same features as the main networks: eg plusnet never had the "Voice over Wi-Fi" option that EE has.

@paul_blitz You mentioned WiFi calling, not something I'd ever had an interest in and my network (Giffgaff, runs on O2) didn't support it anyway.

Oddly, quite recently I received a message from GG telling me that WiFi calling was now available and, bizarrely, just a day or so later I was in a situation where I needed to, and did, use it.

It seems that GG have been quietly rolling this out (presumably courtesy of O2) and finished the job a few weeks ago. Apparently it's all to do with moving off 2G and onto 4G/5G.

It goes a LOT further than just needing to use 4G, there's a whole back-end infrastructure needed to make it work. My Plusnet mobile was 4G, but they didn't have the infrastructure needed for VOWiFi.

But great to hear that other providers are now doing it: it lets you make calls where the mobile signal is weak... so inside big buildings like hospitals (the hospital in Winchester has good Wifi, but terrible mobile reception)

I've been with EE since the days of Mercury (One2One) with my first contract taken in 1997. I recent years I have found EE's customer service to have improved immensely although I rarely need to contact them as things work well.

I usually get good deals when it comes to recontracting.

I migrated to EE with the Plusnet Mobile shutdown offer

Apart from all the benefits and features of being with a primary mobile operator (WiFi calling, Alexa integration ,5G etc) I've found the support to be good when needed.

There was an odd issue I experienced shortly after migrating and I was given a named technical support contact with a direct contact email address. We resolved the issue which was found to be a phone setting.

Recently I needed to quickly set up an internet connection for my daughter on her return from Australia - as an existing EE customer I got a good deal on an unlimited data sim which has been flawless running at 100Mps for the the last few months.

I get the impression that EE are keen to retain customers and will do deals and stack offers - I'm more than happy with EE at near MVNO pricing 😊
