How to connect VOIP phone?

I moved into my rented property in Sept 2022. I continued using Plusnet from my previous address, except I was told that my new area was full fibre only so I wouldn't have a phoneline. Eventually, openreach came round and fitted everything and I was up and running.

I am now considering doing some extra work in telemedicine through a company. They would provide the equipment such as a VOIP phone. I know I would need a 3rd party VOIP provider such as Vonage. Is there anything else I would need to do? As I never had the landline connected I don't care about the number. Do I need to inform PlusNet?

@Lady_Thorin i would have thought that if the company are providing the voip phone, they would also be providing the voip account and the phone would be pre-configured with the details. I would expect that the phone would be configured to connect to the company pbx so that when you make calls , the company phone number is presented.

You would just need to connect the voip phone to your router, usually via an ethernet cable.

Do I need to inform PlusNet?

No, its nothing to do with them.

There are many VOIP providers out there. If you're chosing one instead of the company providing an account have a look at

If the work involves multiple calls or they are time consuming you need to look carefully at the phone packages on offer.
