PSTN Closure Misinformation?

This subject has been doing the rounds for a while and should be fairly well understood by those with an interest.

An article the recent issue (No 659) of Computer Active, apart from making the common error of equating PSTN closure with the end of the copper network, explains that Plusnet users who wish to use Plusnet VOIP service can not do so using their older style routers (Hub 1 pictured), so will need to request a new VOIP cabable router from Plusnet.

This left me wondering if I had missed something, as I am not aware of an announcement on the subject from Plusnet.

Is anyone able to point me towards an announcement about VOIP from Plusnet I may have missed?

On the other hand ofcourse, it may just be another example of the misinformation in circulation.

Apologies if this is a red herring.

It is misinformation. Currently Plusnet do not offer a VoIP service. Whilst the Hub 2 has an analogue phone socket it is not operational. Digital phones and ATA’s will work on any Internet connection, regardless of the ISP or hub being used.
