Since you are a 'moderator' I assume that you work for and represent Plusnet, is this correct?

From Plusnet I would expect a more helpful answer like:

'currently we do not offer IPV6 like BT, ZEN and other UK providers do, but in an effort to align to the standards and overcome the v4 IP shortage that prevents us from offering our business customers anything more than a very small and insufficient 5 IPs subnet, we have a roadmap to provide IPV6 starting from ....'

Isn't that better?

Could someone from PlusNet please post an update on current IPv6 rollout progress?

The spring rollout suggested in the accepted answer post has been and gone.

I have recently joined PlusNet. Having been with Sky/NowTV and BT previously, I wrongly assumed IPv6 was a relatively standard feature among leading UK ISPs. I certainly didn't think there would be such a big discrepancy between BT (with IPv6 connectivity for several years) and a BT-owned subsidiary.

I naively thought my router was to blame when I could not acquire IPv6 connectivity and came across this thread.

Just because most consumers don't know or understand what IPv6 is, failure to implement it in 2020 shows an ISP with a distinct disregard to a global issue which the networking engineers at PlusNet do (or at least, should) understand.

Come on PlusNet, you can definitely do better than this. It seems like it's been talked about since about 2011 but disregarded because of a feeling that IPv6 is a high end feature that should only be available on BT. (At least, this is what I can ascertain from reading other forum posts)

In my opinion, this decision shows an antisocial attitude to other net users - especially those within Asia.

As I understand it, shortage of IPv4 address is most acute in Asia due to historical allocation of IPv4 netblocks (i.e. IPv4 address ranges).

Asian countries are therefore most in need of widespread IPv6 adoption, as they are going to benefit most from IPv6 only networks - and are already moving in this direction (https://blog.apnic.net/2019/02/27/the-growth-of-ipv6-in-the-asia-pacific-region/#:~:text=IPv6%20was%20created%20to%20increase,32%20bits%20to%20128%20bits.). However, this requires IPv6 capable networks elsewhere - to maintain interoperability.

Delay in parts of the world where this isn't seen as a priority may not be immediately apparent to us, but there is a need. Network address translation is a fix, of sorts, but IPv6 is the longer term direction that we should be heading in and is being held back by slow adopters.

I hope this explains my previous comment!

No, not directly, it won't. I agree, it won't make any difference to the many IPv4 sites that would remain out there.

However, PlusNet should get their house in order. The routers already support the technology and BT already provide it - so the network can't be far off.

PlusNet have been talking about rolling it out but it seems to have stalled, from what I can gather, because of a reluctance to compete with BT's "premium" offering that provides IPv6. This is a bit frustrating and the part that I consider makes PlusNet antisocial to other internet users.

I very much doubt many users would leave PlusNet over this single factor - the lower end of the market is mainly focused on price. However, many other cheap ISPs do support IPv6 - notably Sky.

That 'reluctance' is actually down to BT, as the parent company, not wanting/allowing PN to roll out IPV6 - i.e. a commercial decision by the ultimate controlling organisation.
