Here's a close up picture. There are ports in the lounge on the opposite side of that wall, such as what my router plugs into. The cable goes up the fence and along the neighbours guttering that lines their porch. I can't remember where it goes from there without prying on their property.

Hey,

We've discovered that, what we assume, is an engineer sorting the next doors internet has done a botch job and plugged their cable into the unit mounted on our exterior wall. Their house has their own unit, but they've opened our unit plugged it in and left it all exposed and in a terrible state. I've attached pictures. It's the black cable that comes from their porch, across the fence and is plugged directly into our box. As you can see, the casing is open and on the floor, and there's exposed wiring.

Can anyone advise me on what's going on here and what I should do about it? Sometimes I think we have unexplained connection issues, but I can't be sure.

Thanks.

They should never do that, but I'm going to guess this work was carried out by a subcontractor, and they have been known to bodge jobs/cut corners.

I've finally found Virgin Medias live chat, so I've left all the information there awaiting response.

OK, but as has been pointed out, that box at the bottom of your picture looks like a Virgin Media connection. And Plusnet wouldn't have anything to do with it - it would be either Virgins installers or BTOR.

It does change things - if the recent work was by Virgin, they need to be contacted. If it was BTOR, they need to be contacted - two entirely different companies.

OK, that does make things a bit complicated, but unfortunately you will need to talk to the neighbours, somehow, and determine who they are with. As the work was obviously done for them. To be honest, if it was Virgin, as it is looking likely, I'm a bit surprised, most of their installations I have seen are very neat.

The other question - I can't see the end of the cable hanging over the wall - can you take a clearer picture, without disturbing anything?
