Greenby Move - Excessive SPAM

Hi,

I am one of your customers that was advised would be migrated to Greenby from 6/7th September.

Appreciate you have fed back on timelines in a recent post in this forum, and I'm sure that is appreciated by all that received a similar start date.

However, from the 1st September I have been receiving a very large number of SPAM emails (many the same!) and this has now increased in frequency to over 500 a day and growing. Is this a consequence of something Plusnet has configured prior to commencing the transition. At the moment it's feeling like a DOS attack on my email.

Prior to 1st September it would be a couple of SPAM a week.

I understand that RoundCube platform has far greater granularity on detecting and eliminating SPAM so hopefully the SPAM either just disappears or can filter it out after the move. The sooner the better!

It may be worth noting that POP3 collection no longer appears to be deleting a message after collection from your mail server and these are now having to be manually deleted. Also started 1st September as evidenced by oldest message on the server. Perhaps a setting change to facilitate transition of email to Greenby without possibility of in-transition loss?

Do you have a hosted domain name?

The inbound MX records for hosted domains has been changed to Greenby, irrespective of the mailboxes being migrated. Mail is still being routed to Plusnet’s AVSIN mail servers … but AV and Spam filtering appears to be non-effective.

I have raised this with @plusnettony but have not yet heard back of any insight as to what is causing the failure to filter.

If one’s mailbox has also been migrated, then this is a matter for investigation with Greenby’s spam management options.

Interesting! I believe this is the first time I have seen this mentioned. Do you know if it is in some way related to the Greenby migration process?

Plusnet [-SPAM-] filter ceased working for us about 12 months ago,
that would have been around 6 months before our migration to Greenby.

Yes have a hosted domain, and your insight would definitely explain it.

Not been migrated yet so will just have to sit tight and hope to get migrated within the next couple of weeks.

Does anybody know if that concludes the whole migration process and as such Greenby should be stable and not subject to outages due to migration activity? Would be good to then evaluate properly what they are going to be like in future.

Over the last few months, our SPAM mail also seems to have increased (a lot!). As someone else said, they're often identical emails, but ostensibly sent from different addresses. I assumed our email addresses had been leaked somewhere, but it seems it may not be the case.

I've been reporting the SPAM, but the amount doesn't seem to be dropping. Is this going to be an ongoing issue with Plusnet mail? And is it linked to the fact that my FOL email domain has been blocked by Microsoft mail servers recently?

Not really surprising that my email address has been in a couple of breaches, but not sure what I can do about it, and it doesn't really explain the increase.
