Is that also the contact email on your Plusnet broadband account ?

The ic24 email account & the Plusnet broadband email are separate accounts, my guess (and its just that) is that the email associated with your PLusnet broadband account was migrated in Jan and given the 2 yrs free. Your IC24 account is now scheduled for migration but will be subject to the £15/yr , since only one account is entitled to the 2 yr free.

I have received an email saying my ic24 email address will soon be migrated to Greenby at a cost of £15 as I have been forcibly moved to EE. I was moved to Greenby in January and was told all my email addresses and Domain associated with Plusnet would have been moved at the same time. Was I told incorrectly at the time.

The IC24 email has not been associated with an IC24 internet subscription for some time, stand alone emails are billable from the off. We had the same with Plusnet emails having had a free service from 2018 to 2026.

You seemed to have missed the point. I have had the ic24 email address for a very long time. The broadband and email was taken over by Madasafish and eventually by Plusnet. As far as I knew it was a Plusnet address which I was still free to use. I thought that when I got the email in January my ic24 address (and domain name which i rarely use ) would have been migrated. I had nothing to say it would not be. The welcome to Greenby email came to my ic24 address, so I had no reason to assume it had not been migrated. I expected the 2 years free as I still had broadband with Plusnet at the time of migration.

Plusnet took over the running of the broadband and email from Ic24 and subsequent companies. As far as I am concerned it is one account and migration should have included all email addresses associated with that account. To complicate things further Plusnet have forced me to move to EE Broadband and phone without explaining the full consequences of that move.

"To complicate things further Plusnet have forced me to move to EE Broadband and phone without explaining the full consequences of that move."

It may be that Plusnet have failed to explain the "full consequences" of your move to EE, but they haven't "forced" you to move! Presumably you decided to keep a home phone with your existing landline phone number - a service Plusnet will no longer be providing - and their proposed simple solution for such account holders is a transfer to EE - who will be providing such a service.

But you could, presumably, have moved your existing phone number to somebody else yourself and remained with Plusnet as your ISP. True, this requires a DIY approach, but many threads are on this forum explaining how to go about this.

Or is this a BT phone line/Plusnet FTTC 'thing'?

I moved to EE as at 80 years old I want to simplify things and not have multiple accounts all over the place. Have checked on greenby.com and see now that only the plusnet email was migrated and not the ic24 alias. I have never used the plusnet email as for years everyone was told the ic24 address and it has always just worked. Also some people have been given an mydomain.co.uk address which will probably stop working soon.

Whilst BT hve decided that Plusnet shall no longer provide either a phone or Email service, there is no other connection between the two services.

In other words, moving your email service to Greenby is not a consequence of your moving to EE. Everyone’s email is moving to Greenby, regardless of whether they are moving ISP.

Regarding your two accounts, if you want to give up the Plusnet address and substitute it for the free 2 years deal with the IC24 one, you need to call Plusnet and ask.

and not the ic24 alias

AFAIK The ic24 email is a completely separate account and not an alias.

Also some people have been given an mydomain.co.uk address which will probably stop working soon.

The migration to Greenby is done on an account basis so any accounts that have hosted domains will retain them post migration.. That said, accounts with webspace and/or domains are only just about to start migration since they are inherently more complicated than the accounts with just email

I can sympathise with that.

Though, my understanding is, one way or another, you would need to have at least two accounts: ISP (with or without phone service) and email account. I believe EE itself, in common with most ISPs these days, doesn't offer email and you would have to use an existing email account. e.g. BT Email - I see from the BT forum some people are having problems with that after migration to EE!

If already transferred to Greenby for email from Plusnet, then you now have the two required accounts: EE (ISP + Phone) and Greenby (Email). I don't know the situation with IC24 email accounts. The Greenby portal only shows the email providers 'Plusnet, Force9, Free-Online, Metronet, Madasafish'. Did you ever have a Madasafish account, as I believe they took over IC24?

Personally, when I got full fibre I simply dropped the landline phone number and continue when at home with Wi-Fi calling. (I also dropped my old 2G mobile number as well, due to muddle and misunderstanding - but that's another story)

From reading other posts it seems that legacy email addresses should have been moved together with the plusnet move. This hasn't happened for me and my ic24 address which I have always used has been left and now because I no longer have plusnet broadband greenby will want £15 to maintain it. I shall have to call support and try to replace the plusnet address that I have never used with the ic24 one i have always used. I may also have to lose the free domain name I was given. When I got the email from Greenby and everything still worked i mistakenly thought it had all been transferred over.

Spoke to Tech support. Apparently it is all my fault for not knowing I had 2 separate accounts. One called namesurnme which has a plusnet email which I have never used and the other called name.surname which had the ic24 email. Only the plusnet email was migrated in January. I have never been told to stop using the ic24 email which I have had for many years. Now that I have left Plusnet because I wanted to retain my landline i will have to pay Greenby £15 to use ic24 after the migration. Am I the only one with legacy email who didn't understand this. I still used plus.net when I logged into my ic24 email so it wasn't obviously separate from plusnet.

Regarding your two accounts, if you want to give up the Plusnet address and substitute it for the free 2 years deal with the IC24 one, you need to call Plusnet and ask.

I did ask tech support whether this was possible and was told it couldn't be done. Whether Greenby would do this after migration i don't know. I'll get a non-isp email address and start moving everyone to the new one.
