Thanks. That's helpful. My email is with Free-online (I use the name@account.idps.co.uk format, would the same thing work? and my server is relay.freeonline.net do I need to change that?)

Thanks again.

Hi

The last couple of days, I've been getting emails bouncing back with:

This is an automatically generated Delivery Status Notification.

Delivery to the following recipients failed permanently:

   * xxxx30@hotmail.com

Reason: A message that you sent to the following recipient could not be delivered due to a permanent error. ** The remote server ?? responded with: ** xxxx30@hotmail.com ??:?? This message was created automatically by mail delivery software on the server .

It's happening whether I use the reply button or add the address, and not just on hotmail. (It happened with an outlook.com address as well). and on both my phone and my laptop. Is this a PN problem, or something in my mail set up ?

John

Does the rejection email have any attachments to give more detail on the reason for rejection ?

With MS Outlook this is often called : details.txt

Thanks for getting back to me:

It talks about part the address being on my block list, but their emails reached me. It was only my replies to them that didn't get through, and it came through my phone and my laptop, so it must be account specific, and there aren't any blocked addresses on my PN account.

The "details" file says:

Final-recipient: rfc822; xxxx30@hotmail.com
Diagnostic-Code: smtp; 550 5.7.1 Unfortunately, messages from [212.159.14.20] weren't sent. Please contact your Internet service provider since part of their network is on our block list (S3150).

Note the block is by Microsoft on messages sent from Plusnet hosted mail servers
that have been involved in repeated spam sending events.

Try sending via Greenby hosted email server : relay.force9.net or mail.enmail.co
both have good Certificates for SMTPS and STARTTLS encryption modes,
for us with emails in form <name>@<account>.plus,com this solved our delivery issues.

Has your email a/c migrated to Greenby ? I ask because ...

Seeing Reporting-MTA: dns; avasout-peh-004 [212.159.14.20]
in the rejection details means your SMTP was a Plusnet hosted relay e.g. relay.plus.net

I just sent an email to my BTInternet a/c via relay.free-online.net [91.204.208.193] this is a
Greenby hosted SMTP, the sending server was : capitola.gateway.enmail.co [213.5.182.70]
i.e. the message has departed from the Greenby/ enmail.co platform.

Looking at what was delivered for me by relay.free-online.net I'd be happy to use that.

This problem is not new. See this loooooooooooong topic that I started back in January:

https://community.plus.net/t5/Email/Hotmail-rejecting-mail-from-PN-Diagnostic-Code-smtp-550-5-7-1/td-p/2035800

The only thing you as a user can do to 'fix' this problem is switch to a new email provider.

"The only thing you as a user can do to 'fix' this problem is switch to a new email provider."

Not necessarily!

When one of the Plusnet mail sending hosts ('avasout-ptp-001.plus.net') was listed recently - on an obscure German website - I was able, with no special authority, to simply ask said obscure German website to remove listing, which they seemingly did quite quickly.

https://community.plus.net/t5/Email/Bouncing-email/m-p/2052851#M61667

So possibly this approach can be used with other websites? Then again, as the listed IP belongs to Plusnet, possibly a direct email to email@plus.net could help?
