Do you mean this? So emails sent via Greenby webmail go out via relay.plus.net, not mail.enmail.co?

webmail connects internally to the local SMTP server,. Since webmail is hosted on the Greenby servers I assume it's connecting to the Greenby SMTP.

I am getting so fed up with this appalling service AND lack of customer care from both Plusnet and Greenby. When is someone going to take accountability for this omnishambles and provide us with some decent communication about what is going on?

Another vote for Mythic Beasts from me. It might've been you, jab1, that recommended them in one of the many discussions about how bad Greenby are.

I've moved my domain, web hosting, and domain's email over to them in the last few days and I couldn't be happier. Only my plus.com address remains, which I use almost everywhere.

It'd be nice if whoever made the decision to offload email and web services, and especially those who made the decision to go with Greenby, could issue some kind of statement/apology and indicate what, if anything, they're doing to force Greenby to provide a decent service going forwards. This fiasco is damaging Plusnet's reputation, and it's their support staff that are having to deal with the endless complaints and support issues for something they probably have little control over now.

The chances of anyone at the BT Consumer Division level (as it there where the decision was made) daring to come on here to explain/apologise, or even acknowledge that there are issues, is as close as my chances of winning the Euromillions lottery, and as I have never entered them, I think you can guess the answer.

I used Mythic-Beasts for email-only hosting on my main domain for circa 6 months last year whilst moving stuff around. Excellent service and no problems whatsoever noted during that time. All good as was support via ticket/email, both pre-sales and after-sales

So, M-B is also totally recommended by me as well (although please do bear in mind YMMV and all that) for a mere £2/m

[-Censored-]your choice If I didn't still have Ye Olde *.force9.net and *.plus.com email A/Cs to worry about then I quite simply wouldn't be here at all now because everything else has long since left PN Towers in anticipation of the impending email doom first mooted several years ago.

Anyone with a domain yet to be migrated to the dog's dinner formally known as PN/Greenby really should give some very serious thought as to how 'important' their email actually is to them, do their own due diligence and then make decisions accordingly.

PS: To avoid an out-of-frying-pan-into-fire experience, best avoid any hosting company with "123" and/or "daddy" in their name ... they can even manage to make PN/Greenby look good but at 10x the price and just like PN, they also play the "that important 'feature' you thought you'd paid for was actually a free service and not contractual so we've just decided to stop giving it to you" card very often

This is about Greenby emails. Yesterday I couldn't log in to see, receive or send emails. I got "RC error: Login failed, please check your credentials", I got timeouts, I got "couldn't reach server". The Support bot was no use. Eventually a human sent a message to say they'd had a serious problem that they thought had been resolved. Well, it wasn't resolved for me. They said they were working on it.

I left it some hours before I tried again, and hooray! I was able to get in and things were working.

But they're not working this morning. I'm back to square one. Just the same as it was first thing yesterday. RC errors, timeouts... If I do manage to log in, it can't access the emails to display them.

I hate the Greenby email. It is slow, clunky, un-intuitive and buggy, and it looks like legacy software. My heart is in my mouth whenever I try to log in and use it. Why the hell did PlusNet choose this godawful system to migrate to?

I too can't seem to access my emails either. I asked for one of my email accounts to be deleted a couple of days ago as they want to charge me. I don't use that account. However, it's still live and i can log into that at Greenby. More worrying is the fact that I cannot log into my regular Plusnet account at Greenby and my husband can't download his messages to Thunderbird at all. I did get some messages but I know there are others because I can see them on my phone saved in the AquaMail's cache.

Yes, it's tiresome when it isn't working as expected. However...

I seem to remember the old Plusnet email system was very erratic and slow, in its day! I'm prepared to stick it out with Greenby and see how it goes. Remember, there is a massive operation going on behind the scenes transferring a very mixed bunch of email accounts from Plusnet etc. to Greenby. Wouldn't it be unrealistic to expect this to be going on without slowdowns and incidents? I'd prefer to judge Greenby when the transfer is completed and it will be an everyday email provider.

I don't understand your comment about it looking like "legacy software". Compared to what? The old Plusnet webmail client? The default Greenby Roundcube webmail client is clearly a newer version than the older Plusnet one and works OK on my mobile phone.

But, if you want the 'more modern' (i.e. older!) Plusnet Roundcube interface, I understand it can be selected as an option in the Greenby webmail settings.

Fortunately, most of my contacts are now on a proper email platform, but I still have my PN account live to allow me to 'mop up' any I have forgotten. This means that my client (I DO NOT USE WEBMAIL) is constantly throwing up failure to connect messages and delaying connection to the working alternative.

Totally unacceptable behaviour.

Quite a few points there! 🙂

If you were one of the first to be moved (8 months ago) it's perhaps not surprising that you are fed up now. I was only migrated a matter of some weeks ago.

I still think this is a big operation going on, and your 8 months confirms this, and it would only be fair, IMO, to assess Greenby after it is all over.

I can only repeat that for me (and clearly others) it has generally worked OK. I know, I am a simple, single Plusnet email address user, who only uses webmail. Of course, where there are genuine service failures - as there are now and then - it affects me as much as it does others.

Now, hold on to your hats, I'm going to say something that is going to be very unpopular.

While realising there are indeed genuine issues, and not having the more complicated user/email accounts as others do, over time on here seeing the masses of complaints about everything under the sun with people blaming it all on Greenby, whatever the issue (there are many) I have unavoidably felt that some of these problems could likely be self caused. While others are possibly just coincidence. I am in particular thinking here of e.g. reported Spam and destination blocking.

One overall issue I recognise is that the reported ease of transition 'it should all be straightforward and simple' did not prove fully correct. You do need to learn the ropes with Greenby and some people are maybe better at doing that than others.

...I didn't say it was.

Anyway, Greenby email is working again now. 😁

So, @pvmb , would you say the Greenby platform works reliably 95%> of the time, which gives plenty of room for glitches?

I certainly wouldn't - every time I start my mail program in a morning, I am waiting for a random mailbox (or random mailboxes) to connect - a problem that only occurred very infrequently on the PN platform, and certainly not with the guaranteed daily frequency I am now observing.

"a problem that only occurred very infrequently on the PN platform"

Your memory certainly differs from mine! Albeit, Plusnet email latterly became more reliable.

"and certainly not with the guaranteed daily frequency I am now observing."

Was Plusnet email having a very large user account transition in operation at the time? And come on, "daily"?

Surely it is unrealistic to expect such a large and complex IT operation going on without any glitches? If so, it would surely be a first. 😊

I still prefer to wait and see.
