Greenby - unreliable login?

This actually regards my neighbour (honest!) who is also a plusnet customer and was migrated to greenby.

The problems started because he did not know his password (it was in the email client so could get email) and his plusnet admin email was way out of date. This meant that any notifications about email migration to greenby went to a non existant mailbox so was never read.

The migration happened several weeks ago so greenby had the username, the unknown password so logging into webail was impossible. With the help of plusnet support, we were able to set a new password for both greenby admin and greenby email (yes they are separate) but here is the problem.

We have never managed to log into webmail despite setting an email password. The email password does work for the email client and so dow downloads happen. With greenby.com sometimes we can login and sometimes not.

As greenby spam filtering is so poor, being able to login to webmail is essential in order to review the junk folder.

Why is greenby so unreliable when it comes to logging into their sites?

Failing to maintain ISP credentials and keep current email up to date is all too common a problem.

You may not be alone in seeing glitchy email logins, but since migrating the greenby we have not been affected by this gremlin i.e. webmail.greenby.com and MS Outlook + Thunderbird are authenticating reliably for POP3 & IMAP & SMTP.

In the greenby, com portal consider turning the Spam filter OFF, this will ensure all messages remain in the Inbox and can be seen in an email app or email client on a computer without needed to revert to webmail.

The problem with switching filtering off is that there is no chance then to tell Greenby that it is not junk / junk and so it won't learn. Sometimes abuse@greenby.com accepts emails, other times not.
I do realise that based on what I have seen so far, greenby spam filter does not learn. For instance, I can go into email to find emails from the plusnet community mailer in both inbox and junk.

My experience is that to log in to Greenby Roundcube webmail I need to use my full PN email address, not PN Username.
But I log in to the Greenby site itself using my PN Username.

WRT Spam, I have not so far seen any sign of any incoming Spam in the short time I have been with Greenby. In fact the current Greenby Spam filter seems to me stricter than the PN one, I have had about three genuine emails directed to the online Spam box - but all that was needed was to flag them as Not Spam and they were moved back to Inbox.

I have found that putting anything into the Whitelist or the Blocked Lists

they DO NOT WORK .

I raised a ticket about it and the machine admitted they dont seem to work.

I have just got Full Fibre and it wizzes thru log in etc but soon as i hit the Webmail button everything goes into slow mode

10 to 15 seconds to open an email, same again to put it in trash,

raised a ticket complaining about slowness

after 8 days got a reply that they had checked and everything was fine their end

Old PN Email was a bit off at times but it was 100% better than this lot

Only good thing is dont have to pay for 2 years !!

1) I had a problem the opposite way with the mail management tab - because I have it to delete from server on download, there should be nothing there when I have downloaded the messages, but one of the accounts showed 14.3kb (1 email) for about an hour after it was downloaded, read and deleted.

So the usage dial in the Roundcube UI seems to correspond more to the former, not the latter.

...What can I say? I logged on to the Greenby portal, went to Email, saw the View Webmail button and clicked on it. After a bit (!) I was at my usual Roundcube email page. Seems to work OK for me - though I only have one email account to deal with, not seven! Which one of those accounts has the same login credentials as used to login to the Greenby portal? In my case there is one and only one for both circumstances - so no confusion is possible.

But usually I simply log on directly to Roundcube at webmail.greenby.com rather than via the portal.

If you sign in to Greenby.com, then select the email tab, you will see a list of your mailboxes, then your email domains (probably one).

The domain line will show the % usage and slider for the domain (ie all your mailboxes) as a % of 2GB (the overall limit).

The mailbox lines may show 0% usage of Unlimted, because you have not yet set a limit for that mailbox. To do that click on the three dota at the right, select Edit Stoirage Space, Then click on Unlimited Storage Space to turn it off, and set the maximum storage space for that mailbox. Note that you can set it to more than the overall limit for the domain, which is silly! If you set them all to 1MB you will see the % become useful. Having different limits for each mailbox may be useful, but means the % are of different amounts which may be confusing.

@PhilipHeyes wrote:

Sorry, cannot help there, as it works for me in Firefox. I can understand why you are reluctant to change passwords, but If it really is persistant, you could try changing one mailbox password to be the same as it is currently and see if that fixes things. I have seen comments that some special characters (maybe "%"?) was acceptable to PN but not to Greenby, but my memory is hazy about that.

If you logon to greenby.com, then either select Manage against your email product, or select the Email option in the main menu. You should see a View Mailbox button on the right for each mailbox listed.

Using greenby.com portal I tried the change password twice with one of my email accounts and it failed to work
The Generated password was not applied, the original password was displayed again.

I get the impression for a <domain>.plus.com a/c even if you can change the password only the inbox password is changed
as the SMTP server relay.plus.net still belongs to Plusnet.

A Greenby Webmail defect.

Using webmail.greenby.com I can write and send an email
but it is not delivered and does not appear in the Sent items of the greenby webmail

Where as the an email sent from the Plusnet webmail using the same account is promptly delivered.

An SMTP Puzzle :

I read in an earlier forum post that once migrated to greenby one could use : relay.force9.net as the new SMTP server.

relay.force9.net gives a Password failure on an account that works with relay.plus.net the account password has not been changed.

@PhilipHeyes

I've just logged in to webmail.greenby.com for the first time, having previously only logged in to greenby.com and gone to the email from there. I have sent an email to my gmail address. It is present in my Sent folder and was delivered immediately.

As an aside, and probably noted by dozens of people elsewhere, I found that I need to login with my email address whereas logging in to greenby.com requires the account name. I guess this is logical because you can have several mailboxes on the account and they are all visible by logging in to greenby.com whereas webmail.greenby.com only gives access to a single address.
