Inbox settings

Can someone please tell me the correct setting I need to access my elails on outlook. since the migration I had a welcome email from Greenby and nothing since. I can send emails from outlook so the SMTP setting are correct but not the IMAP settings.

Settings haven't changed, can you let us know what error message you get?

Please also confirm if this is the default or a mailbox, and if it's Plunet/F9 etc?

When I couldn’t get emails come through to outlook, I deleted the account and set it up again using the settings that Greenby told me to use. I set it up with the inbox server: imap.plus.net. but Greenby said it should be: mail.enmail.co and the incoming server port should be 143 and the SSL/TLS is disabled.

When I press enter it all come up as complete and “you are all set up” but I realise now I am set up to Greenby email and not Plusnet email.

The Plusnet webmail and the Greenby webmail are both receiving the emails it’s just the connection to outlook is the problem.

The error message I get is "Log on to incoming email server (IMAP): The server rejected your login. Verify that your username and password are correct."

The user name and password ard correct because I can send emails via outlook.

You have been miss informed mail.enmail.co is INCORRECT

There is no reason why you should not continue using the following.

IMAP: imap.plus.net port: 993 TLS/SSL
POP3: mail.plus.net port: 995 TLS/SSL
SMTP: relay.plus.net port: 587 STARTTLS

To remove any confusion I would use the above as they should still work.

Can you confirm what you email address brand is, force9, free-online, plus net or something else; as it matters for the server settings.

Post migration for webmail you should really be only using https://webmail.greenby.com/

@abitpedantic you should not be using mail.enmail.co directly, that is the Greenby mail server. You should be using exactly the same names as you used before the migration. Assuming you have a .plus.com address, then that is mail.plus.net or imap.plus.net for incoming , and relay.plus.net for outgoing. These names now resolve to the proxy server, which knows whether an account has been migrated or not. It then redirects to the correct server, the Greenby one for migrated accounts and the Plusnet ones for non-migrated accounts.

That is how it should work, the only difference at the moment is that the relay.plus.net does not resolve to the proxy. This is a temporary situation and will be changed soon to operate as planned and resolve to the proxy. This temporary situation is what is causing the problem for migrated accounts where the Plusnet account has subsequently been closed, since the credentials are no longer valid at the Plusnet server. As I said in the other thread, a workaround for this situation is to use a name which does resolve to the proxy i.e relay.force9.net which for a migrated account will redirect to the Greenby server.

Implementing the migration this way (using the proxy) was designed so that users did not have to change the email client settings after migration. Unfortunately Greenby caused confusion by advising people to change their settings!

Very much so.

All the reasonable mail programmes (in my case Thunderbird) expect to be dealing with a reasonable mail server, and so suggest that a lack of login might be due to a user/password error, not that the mail server is, as with Greenby, simply terminally useless.

The other day I added my Plusnet email ([myname]@[myAccountName].plus.com) using IMAP to Outlook for Android. The setup automatically used 'mail.enmail.co' and it worked, I could send and receive mail using IMAP on Outlook for Android.

Since I was fairly sure using mail.enmail.co was not right, I started again and took more care to set things manually, to the PN servers. However, that did not work. I could receive mail but sending failed, couldn't authenticate.

Consequently I reset Outlook for Android back to mail.enmail.co and everything works again. If this means that when I get migrated this client will get confused and stop that's not a problem for me because my primary access to my mail is via my desktop PC, which uses POP3. I'll simply delete the PN address from Outlook for Android and set it up again.

Yes, I am fully aware to the potential pitfalls of mixing POP3 and IMAP access to the same account. I know how to mange the mix. I've done it forever and I've never lost any messages.

Meanwhile, on my desktop PC, Outlook is configured to use POP3 to the PN severs and (apart from when things go wrong) it works as expected.

My experience is similar to @stuck . I bought a new laptop and set up Outlook and it automatically set mail.enmail.co for both incoming and outgoing email. I have been migrated so I still don't grasp from your reply why I should change the server settings. Will the current settings cause something to stop working at some point in the future?

Would I still need to change the outbound server to relay.force9.net if I didn't renew my broadband contract with Plusnet or would mail.enmail.co continue to work?

Simple answer is I dont know. The official URLs for the mail servers will get updated if equipment changes in the future. Any unofficial ones MAY get updated but its not guaranteed
