Where's the guide you're following ?

The outgoing port should be 587 using STARTTLS as the encryption

I can no longer send emails. I have religiously followed Plusnet's reset guide except for resetting the outgoing port to 465 which I would do if I can find out how to do so. There seems to be no option available in outgoing mail server settings. Help!

Thanks for your reply. I followed www.plus.net/help/email-guides/how-to-set-up-plusnet-email/ where it tells me that if my client does not support STARTTLS (which it doesn't) then I can set SSL to Yes and set the outgoing port to 465 but there is no mention of the port number in Advance settings (presumably because this has been set automatically).

As you say, if there's no option in your client for port number, then likely it's set it automatically. Port 465 is the default for SSL. on an outgoing server. However most email clients should support STARTTLS

I've attached a screen shot of a working POP3S / SMTPS configuration from Outlook 2010.

If you are using IMAP as the in bound server, that is fine & it will look a little different.

This is using SMTP on Port 465 with SSL ... it is actually SSL/TLS & TLS 1.2 is being used.
