Just seen the announcement of the Greenby migration.

At the moment, I relay my small amount of domain mail unauthenticated, over my PN connection, via relay.plus.net. I have madasafish.com included in my spf.

Once I'm moved over, will I be compelled to use smtp auth (even whilst on a PN connection) and what if any changes are needed to the spf record?

Cheers

No issue other than knowing if it is needed. If so I must configure per host authenticated smtp in postfix. Currently I don't need to bother with it. Do you happen to know what the greenby SPF is?

Cheers

You use the same as current. The Greenby SMTPs have been added to the configuration.

Thanks.

It sounds like I may not need to change anything.

When I have encountered outgoing problems in the past, I have temporarily switched to direct delivery. But, with my IP being listed as PBL, I prefer to relay via PN.

It's a bit late but since you asked why I don't just use authenticated smtp auth regardless:

Whilst looking through my old notes made when setting up mail, I observed that a header containing my PN user ID, was being added when I authenticated. Without it (and sending via PN network of course) it wasn't added.

Since I preferred not to expose the PN user ID in every outgoing message, I opted for unauthenticated!

I don't see the authenticated PN user ID in outbound messages via relay.plus.net, however it will show the server address received from, which includes my PN user ID as the server IP resolves to [myusername].plus.com. That will occur even unauthenticated.

Sending authenticated is fine for me. More of a concern is I don't really use PN email other than outbound relay, but it looks like Greenby will start charging after 2 years. If I binned the Greenby service, would that mean access to relay.plus.net for outbound mail is gone also?

I use the relay to have a better guarantee outbound mail isn't treated as spam

My own mail server using my own domain, SPF settings, and a static IP from PN. Been running one for decades. Currently using Synology MailPlus server.

As mentioned above, could send direct but there's less trust so outbound relays via PN.

Yes. Once an account is migrated, the smtp service is via a Greenby system. My understanding is that if you dont have a Greenby account you wont be able to use it.
