How do I get an EPP code to transfer my plusnet hosted domain name so I can move my email

I have a .net domain name I registered with plusnet many years ago which I only use for email with a few family mailboxes.

I want to move that domain to Ionos and use their email servers.

I believe I need an EPP domain transfer authorisation code.

How do I go about obtaining one?

Usually asking here and waiting for a staff member to pick up the query is effective.

You could try calling support and hope that the person who picks up has experience of doing this ... if there is vagueness ask them to ask ALBERT "Migrate domain away from Plusnet" - there should be several paths, depending on which TLD is involved.

From the ENOM transfers I've done recently (com/net etc), I've sent an auth email to the contact email address of the domain.

Any agent should be able to raise a network task for you, and then we'll send authority. You then ask the new people to take it on board. Once DNS has changed, we delete the domain from our systems.

I spoke to an agent and went round the houses but although she was trying hard to understand and help but in the end insisted that I needed to give them an IPSTAG for the new provider. I did say that's only for .uk domains which this isn't but even after checking with a manager that remained the story. I said I would check and come back.

As it happens the plusnet website itself says IPSTAG is only for transferring .uk domains and anything else technical support request.

Anyway I called back and kudos to <Redacted> who nailed it immediately so I have a support ticket saying the EPP key will be here within 5 days.

So, fingers crossed, this is now in hand.

Seems like not "any agent" or indeed a manager can do this. Would it be possible to have the call reviewed and find out why the difference between a *.uk TLD and others was not discerned? Is the ALBERT workflow comprehensive enough?

As we move further into migration these requests might become more common place and there needs to be a one-touch solution for customers, not the multi touch experience of @ianmcg - if you had not been here to steer this, it could have gone around the houses a couple of times!
