IMAP password needed for new Outlook - Page 2 - Plusnet Community

The original thread is closed so I thought I'd post this here as it may be useful to some of you.

I had the same issue as most of those in the thread (above). I had it working fine for a few months then it stopped. When I tried to reconfigure the settings it would reject the setup details and a popup mentioned a App Password being needed.

For me, the resolution was to avoid the built-in version of Outlook included with Windows 11 and try Outlook (classic). I entered the same setup info but this time it popped up with the message in the attachment (relating to the security certificate). I selected YES to continue. I've included the Cert Info in the screenshot. I presume this is where the previous version of Outlook failed as it couldn't display the certificate warning so it stopped the process.

I hope this helps someone as it had me frustrated for a while!

That is an interesting theory, but only if the server settings are WORNG.

smtp.plus.net and relay.plus.net are essentially the same server, so CONNECTIVITY will work, but smtp is NOT included in the authentication certificate, but relay is.

Why this works with one and not the other, is because the other messes around with the settings and makes it very hard to correct them manually.

Sadly this is not a silver bullet to understanding the issues with "New" Outlook.
