I'll give this a whirl and if no joy, just bite the bullet and move to Gmail/Yahoo or similar. I've a feeling Plusnet don't offer e-mail to new customers anymore so I'm assuming at some point in the future they may wind down for existing customers too.

I've been reading through the threads and am I right in assuming that there's no way to get Plusnet email to work in Outlook (new)? I think the issue is that it forces you to put the username formatted as an email but obviously in the legacy Plusnet email system the username is not an email. If someone has got it working on Outlook (new) - not the 365 version - please do let me know! They've shut down Windows Mail where it did work

They've is not not plusnet but Microsoft making incorrect assumptions.

Have you any reason for using Outlook as Thunderbird email client works well with plusnet email.

Yeah, sorry by "they" I meant Microsoft! Is there any workaround to use Outlook (new) for Plusnet e-mails, or is there no option but to use something like Thunderbird or pay for Office 365? Is the issue that Outlook (new) forces you to use an e-mail as the username, whereas on Plusnet e-mail obviously it isn't an e-mail address as the username?

Apparantly it works with secondary email addresses see this post and the embedded link: https://community.plus.net/t5/Email/Can-t-link-my-Plusnet-email-account-to-New-Outlook/m-p/1979439#M47036.

It seems that Microsoft assumes that you will only use their email service with the freebie version of Outlook.

Assuming is a dangerous game!

You'd be better off finding a more friendly to configure email client such as thunderbird. "New Outlook" is utter rubbish!

As mentioned, it can be made to work, but the functionality is so poor, I do not think its worth the effort. Either user proper Outlook via a Microsoft365 subscription or use the ilk of Thunderbird. There are other free email clients out there too.

Thanks for the reply. Yeah, I tried the convoluted method but still couldn't get it working. I've bitten the bullet and gone for Gmail as this also means I'm not tied down to an ISP too.
