@Mav checked the Mythic site and this https://www.mythic-beasts.com/support/hosting/mail/server probably explains the procedure better than I could.

There is a link at the bottom of that page to 'Advanced usage' which explains how aliases(forwarders) actually work by use of .forward files. Should you need to add a number of aliases, you can simply create the correct .forward files and then FTP them to your mythic account. As suggested in the link, if you wish to go that way , its probably best to create one manually , FTP up the file and then use it as a template to create the others. When I moved my domain from PN , I had about 80 aliases, I created a spreadsheet with the alias names and corresponding mailbox, then used a macro to generate all the .forward files. A quick FTP of the files to the Mythic account, job done!

Having followed The perils of email tied to an ISP I didn't want to derail the thread so thought I'd start my own.

Currently, after the fantastic help support given @MisterW, I am using Mythic Beats for three domains but I am interested in the use of aliases. So far when I have a new business to contact I create a new address such as <newbusiness>@<mydomain>.uk.Would using aliases make the collecting/sorting of emails any easier? How do I set it up?

If you don't have catch all option you'd have to create a new forward for each address you want.

@Mav on the Mythic email settings , you creat the email address you require as the alias , then specify the action for that address. For an alias it's usually just specifying the existing mailbox in which to save email for that alias.

Aliases don't really help with sorting , as you can probably sort on sending address anyway. Where aliases score is that you can have a unique address for each website so if one gets compromised your main email addresses are not. Aliases are only really useful where you only get emails from a website and rarely ( if ever ) send emails to that site. The reason for that is that emails from the aliases will be collected in one mailbox. In your mail cilient, that mailbox will have an address used to send email ( which will not be the alias address ) so you need to be careful when replying to an email alias , some clients will, allow you to customise the sending address but you need to remember to do it .

Hope that helps for starters. If you need the detailed instructions I'll do those tomorrow when I've got my laptop up.

Nb there's a quick way to create multiple aliases if thats something you might want to do.
