IMAP not finding emails

Hi,
Using IMAP to retrieve my emails but getting vary variable results on my mobile. Was originally using Outlook for Android but recently getting delays of a day or more. Even forcing update didn't return mails I could see on webmail site.
Last week I tried alternative FairEmail app. Seemed to be more reliable until today when I was expecting verification emails. After forced send/receive on both apps...
FairEmail updated to yesterday
Outlook updated to 4pm today
Webmail showing 3 emails rec'd since 4pm.
App junk/spam folders all checked.

Any suggestions, please?

Do any of the emails have large attachments?

I would look for a connectivity / performance issue. Do those applications allow you to increase the server timeouts? Are any errors being reported?

No attachments. No visible error msgs but not sure where to look for a log file.
Both apps taking time to retrieve so server timeout might be an issue.
Since posting, both apps have refreshed & eventually sync'd but with delays - one would still not find emails that had been retrieved by the other.
I'll look at timeout & maybe archiving some of my mail folder.
