Forum feature request : Display what users are doing.

On the old forum, it used to be possible to select "Who's Online", which would display a list of members who have been active in the last ten minutes AND what they last did.

Therefore you could easily see who was replying to a post you might be interested in, or how many people are reading something you just posted, or who is reading or sending a PM, viewing a board, looking at a list of unread posts, marking items as read, etc, etc.

I used to find this feature useful, as you could decide whether to wait for an imminent reply, or watch while a staff member has read your posting, or whether there was nothing going on and you could safely go off and do something else for a while.

Currently there is a list of active users, but it is missing the detail of what their last action was -

AFAIK, it's not a feature available in the core product, and no-one has discovered such a feature (we have asked if it's there). I suspect Admins may be only ones that can see that.

In terms of waiting for replies, just keep your Notification Feed open in a Tab. You will get a pop-up and if you miss that, just refresh the Notifications periodically.

As an admin I can see the last url a user has visited on the online users page. I don't think this is available to regular users. It might be a permission based setting to let everyone see what everyone is doing but I don't know how everyone would feel about having this information available to everyone.

Ah, but I assume you can see things we can't

It was interesting sometimes. If I happened to get a bit bored, I could see what others were reading and go and have a look. I could also see which boring old gits were reporting my posts
