In line with the present practice in phpBB, would it not be better if the version number was omitted from the "Powered by SMF" in the footer of these forums? If a new version of SMF is released to fix a security hole, I rather think displaying the old version number until you can get it fixed is inviting trouble!

IIRC, we aren't allowed to remove the version... but I'll check

No. I looked this morning myself to see if you could change it, found it was in the language file, didn't produce the horrible nasty warning and left it.

i spend a lot of time on smf fora and one feature i use a lot is the up/down button at the head and foot of pages. it helps when, having read to the end, the user wants to get to the top quickly without having to use the slide bar.
please, pretty please, can we have a go down and a go up button?

I'll second that one.
When returning to a thread I often have to go to the top to see the previous few post just to remind myself of the gist of the discussion.
