So should be independent of your local mobile phone mast.

The local phone mast is down so I can’t make or receive phone calls and am totally reliant on WhatsApp for calls but the connection keeps cutting out and there is continuous sound distortion on the line. Is this connected to the phone mast fault?

Are the calls using mobile data on a mobile, wifi from your router, or a wired ethernet connection to your router (e.g. whatsapp on computer)?
