Utilise EE 1.6Gbps

1.6gbps is available over fttp from EE. I can only find 900gbps from Plusnet. Is there a way to open up these speeds on Plusnet from the same architecture?

As the 'value' brand of the BT Consumer Division, I doubt these higher speeds will be offered under the Plusnet banner.

You could always cancel your PN account and move to EE if you really needed the higher speeds.

or check whether you have access to AltNet FTTH and get symmetrical upload and download speeds of 2.5Gbps.

There is nothing that would persuade me to go to EE for broadband, as my previous dealings with them were terrible.

Plusnet wouldn't offer 1.6Gbps, as they would have to provide a router that was capable of >1Gbps, and there are no signs of that.

@daveclinton It is, if you need the extra speed. Apart from anything else, AFAIK, the Plusnet Hub2 can only handle 1Gbps, anyway.

Providing the cost is worth it, I suppose. Zen keep offering me much higher speeds, but I cannot justify paying for them.

Spoke to the always helpful PN team.
Understand WiFi 7 and Fttp up to 2.8 Gb is in a trial period that’s just started. Likely to last about 12 months. So unlikely to be available in time for my end of Sept renewal.
Validates John’s earlier suggestion.

I know the feeling. Reluctant to lose that service quality from PN, however, speed decision is for the next two years so going to bite the bullet, again.

It is noticeable on ISP sites that offer both Openreach and AltNet networks, comparing same download speed packages, that AltNets are considerably cheaper than the Openreach equivalent.

Yea, and when City Fibre finally get into my neck of the woods, if it's in the next 18-24 months I might even think about it - the price difference (BTOR vs CF) might just make it worthwhile, although for my modest needs...

I am luckly enough to have both OR and CityFibre full fibre networks available.

I know Zen Internet, who use both, will quote you using the CF network as it's cheaper than OR hence their offering is cheaper on CF with regards to OR.

Now that my email has been migrated I will have a good look a Zen at my next contract renewal.

Have you been a customer of any smaller 'non-mainstream' ISP ?

Those that answer the phone in less than a minute, can be contacted by email, where the call centre is staffed by qualified engineers that know what they're talking about and take 'ownership' of solving your problem until it's solved, where they actually get to the root cause of your issue and don't do the Plusnet support default thing of sending out another router (the same as the existing one that doesn't have a fault), etc, etc...

Although the 'replacement router' action is dictated OR, @ExForce9 - ZEN had to do that (twice) for me when Connect Fibre contractors messed up my connection on the DP, even though I, and the support guy at Zen both knew what the problem was.

OR wouldn't entertain coming out until I had been sorely inconvenienced for a week.

I was on FTTC at the time.

I appreciate that you currently have some sort of discount on your latest renewal, and I don't know what speed package you are on, but guessing your 'modest needs' I just compared on Zen the difference between similar Openreach and CityFibre packages -

CityFibre = £28 for 155Mbps upload, 155Mbps download
Openreach = £33 for 18Mbps upload, 105Mbps download

Good guess, @ExForce9 Correct current speeds, and yes, I do currently enjoy a reasonable discount, which I guess I could re-negotiate should CF get up here. They are slowly making their way towards me, but there are a couple of densely populated areas they have to get through first, hence why I'm not holding my breath.

Consider registering your interest on CityFibre, as I would hope that they would build to areas with most requests.

I'm registered as 'interested' with about five different AltNets that have a presence in the surrounding villages,

unfortunately the closest CityFibre installation is about seven miles away and no signs of coming my way.
