Line dropping

My FTTC connection dropped twice in the space of 20 minutes.

I can't find a status page and there doesn't seem to be an email address to send a whining email to.

Suggestions other than phoning a number to be on hold for ages please? Or do CSRs respond in here?

Also how do I change my login name for the forum which is different to the login name for my account?

@firstfloor8 Is this the first time it has dropped? Can you attach an exported copy of your routers event log to a post?

A status page would only show significant network-wide issues, not your individual connection.

Support on Plusnet is only via phone or on here, and rarely if ever, from the Help Team, usually other Community members.

As to your forum 'name', if you wish to change it, contact one of the mods.

Log file doesn't go back far enough sadly.

what router do you have, and have you very recently factory reset it?

OK. I was hoping you were using a PN Hub, as they have an extensive event log. I'm not familiar with Draytek's, so don't know if they have useful event logs - from what you say, they don't.

All I can suggest in that case, is to use the bot I referred to above.

Is this a regular occurrence or a one off incident? If the latter it would be pretty well impossible to resolve and would be dismissed as insignificant.

Why do you consider that a disadvantage? Frankly (from a security POV) I would consider it an advantage...

If the log file is too short, it appears that you can attach a USB flash drive memory stick to the router, and have the logged events save as they occur to this external memory, therefore the log file won't be limited to the router's internal storage.

According to Google -

The DrayTek Vigor 2860 has WAN event logging (via Syslog).

Key details

In System Maintenance >> Syslog / Mail Alert Setup, you can enable Syslog and specifically tick WAN Log (along with other categories like Firewall, VPN, Call, User Access, Router/DSL information).
View recent logs in the web UI under Diagnostics >> Syslog Explorer. Enable Web Syslog and choose the relevant Syslog Type (WAN events appear here, including connection up/down, PPPoE/PPP messages, etc.).
Via Telnet: Use log -w to display the WAN log (and log -Fw to flush/clear it). Related options include call logs (log -c) and PPP logs.

Typical WAN log entries include messages such as “WAN 1 is up”, “WAN 1 is down”, PPPoE/LCP negotiation, DHCP, USB modem detection, and connection statistics.

You can also forward the full Syslog (including WAN) to an external Syslog server/PC running DrayTek’s Syslog utility, or save it to a USB stick attached to the router.
