If you are on FTTC, you can remain on it with EE. Should you decide to move to Full Fibre at a later time, it would merely need an ONT and CBT fitting, with no change to your internal wiring, @flycatchers

I assume you're still on FTTC. Is Full Fibre available at your property?

If you wish to stay with PN then you'll need to move your phone to a VOIP provider. voipfone are one such company, A&A are another. They have a good FAQ section on VOIP.

https://www.aa.net.uk/voice-and-mobile/voip-information/

Who you choose is up to you but might depend on whether or not you're a heavy phone user.

What ever you choose you CANNOT move your phone service until PN have transferred you to a product called SOGEA. You'll have a few days downtime on the phone and may also need to buy some equipment.

Hi Brian, This is what i'm hoping to do. I had an email today saying if i don't contact PN, i will be migrated to EE in 30 days and i really don't want that to happen. Any advice please on what i can do? I found a company online called Voipfone (https://www.voipfone.co.uk/) and wondered if they might offer a solution? Thanks for any advice. This whole matter as been causing quite a bit of worry.

If you can get it, and to stay in control, I would suggest requesting an FTTP upgrade from PlusNet

Probably better to also tell PlusNet you are staying as instructed in the email.

When the FTTP HAS BEEN installed, you get the discontinued number 'ported' over to a VOIP (A&A is another popular option) .

Getting the VOIP side set up now on a temporary number might be a good idea too, so you retain outward calling at all times.

Any other route depends on what you have now (ADSL or FTTC) and what you could get.

If you are FTTC just tell PlusNet you want to stay (That should stop the EE transfer) and do the VOIP after they have told you the phone is removed.

Doing a VOIP port while the phone is still live and part of the account is likely to cancel everything.

I am not sure anyone has dug down to how this affects ADSL folks who cannot get FTTP. The email suggested EE might take over ADSL lines as-is, given it states 'no change of speed' nor anything about FTTP installation, so this is more a case of removing anyone with PlusNet who wants a fixed phone.

Hi, Thanks for the reply. Yes, Fibre to cabinet at the moment, but they are putting full fibre in down our road, so if we don't have full fibre just yet, we will have the option soon i think. I'll ring PN tomorrow and tell them I don't want to migrate to EE and stop that, hopefully. I'll ask about SOGEA and see what they say. It's new to me so i'll google it later. What is the piece of equipment i might need that you mention please? Is it a new handset to plug into my PN router or some sort of adapter perhaps? This is quite a steep learning curve for me. Thanks for sharing what you know. It is much appreciated.

For you SOGEA is just yopur existing copper from cabinet FTTC without the analogue voice.

To get 3rd party VOIP (A&A, VOIPPhone etc) you need one of:

1 - A VOIP deskphone (I have a Yealink T41S, there were lots cheap on eBay and A&A had the full setup instructions)

You then connect this by ethernet lead to the router.

Setup relatively OK, or available pre-configured from VOIP suppliers

2 - An 'ATA' (analogue telephone adapter)

You plug your old phone in, and it either connects by wifi or ethernet to the router. With a bit more work you can back feed all your in-house wiring extensions to older phones (maybe not pulse diallers)

Setup complicated from a default state, or available pre-configured from VOIP suppliers.

I did get mine working, but it took most of the day and that was with A&A's instructions to follow ! I would not do it again.

3 - A DECT base station for VOIP, connects by ethernet to router

4 - A router with a phone socket or inbuilt DECT base station (as supplied by Zen)

Even if not going with them, the A&A help pages are worth a read for typical devices.

https://support.aa.net.uk/Category:VoIP_Phones

I'm currently FTTC, & will be transferring to EE. The email I received simply said that I will receive a replacement hub. Nothing about having to have FTTP installed. I'm in a FTTP priority area. There was no mention in the FAQ on the Plusnet website either.

I know that the email was a generic one, but you would have thought that Plusnet would have mentioned somewhere that you will need a FTTP installation if you are in a priority area.

btw...I received another call from 01438 989277 today. Same result as yesterday. Answered within a few seconds, but no one at the other end. If they do ever decide to speak to me, I could ask them that question. No doubt they will try again tomorrow!
