Line retraining

Hi there - just joined the forum to see if I can get some help please.

I moved into a new house recently and have been stuck at about 40ish Mbps down and 7ish up. I pulled off a few faceplates today and found that there's a ring of CAT 5E running around my house. I disconnected the rest of the ring (as it's not needed) from the main incoming wires and immediately saw a bump up to 45 down. I was wondering if my line could now take a bit more speed and would benefit from retraining? (apologies if I'm using the incorrect terms, I probably know enough to sound like an idiot without knowing what I'm talking about).

What product are you on from PlusNet?

Thanks for the reply - please see the attached screenshot. I'm on FTTC and in my welcome email the following speeds were suggested.

Here's all the speed details you need to know.

Fibre has an average speed of 50Mb download and 9Mb upload.

At peak times, we estimate that you'll get the following speeds on your line:
Download: 60Mb
Upload: 9 - 15Mb
Minimum Guaranteed Speed: 40Mb

Thanks for the information.

The results show you should be able to receive between 70 and 49 down. However you are close to the "Handback" threashold which is where OpenReach will consider you have a fault.

Login to your PN Members page and then, probably under Support, look at the troubleshooting pages. There should be a diagnostic bot for braodband - run this and see what it says.
