Pole is about 3 houses further up the street and at the bottom of a garden and we didn't really feel the thumps in the house.

Hopefully its not something wrong in the cables as the ducts have basically failed.

My neighbour is getting a driveway installed. This has involved lifting the pavement and making a ramp. The phone lines to the pole that my house is connected to go under the pavement. After they had lifted it and put down the rock base they used one of those bouncing compression tools. Whilst they were doing this my line kept dropping and the line speed dropped down to about 27Mbps When they finished the line dropped and went back to it's normal speed of about 53Mbps. That was Tuesday.

Today they came to put the tarmac down and when they started packing it down the line did the same thing.

I would guess that the vibrations affected the cable connector on the pole rather than actually damaging the cable, as damage would likely cause a permanent change.

I would keep an eye on it, and report any increase in the frequency of dropped connection or any decrease in speed. And keep your fingers crossed!
