The cabinet has it's own Facebook following, the author of which collered an Openreach worker who said the power supply to the cabinet needed replacing by UK Power Networks, they, UK Power don't work weekends, so the cabinet runs off of a battery pack which runs down and has to be replaced, after an hour it seems.

A vehicle crashed into our local fibre roadside cabinet, all broadband went down around here. Open reach reckon it will be next Monday at the earliest to be back on. Haven't seen anyone working on it since Tuesday morning, sweeping up the debris.
So, smart TV went dumb all house WiFi down.
Finally my question is, would a VoIP phone go down as well. We managed to keep are landline and I used it to call Plusnet initially to report the flashing orange light on the router. 4g here is a bit rubbish.

Depends!

A VoIP 'phone' can deliver the calls in various ways, depending on what the VoIP provider offers. They could be delivered to a phone in the property over the internet (so in this case the phone would be dead) or they could be delivered to your mobile / app on the mobile. So long as the mobile had network connectivity the calls would be delivered.

Precise functionality depends on the provider.

If the VOIP was a 'digital voice' via BT/EE, Zen, Sky etc, the yes the phone line would be gone as well. Believe that there is no app that you can use for these services.

As these things go that appears to be a pretty quick repair. I've seen reports where it takes two or three weeks at least to get things back up and running.

They may be waiting for roadwork permissions or for the power company to replace / secure the power supply.

If the VOIP pone is internet only then yes it will go down. No internet no service.

Back in the days of pre-fibre, wiping out a green cabinet would have taken down phone lines and the associated broadband. Yes, it can take time. There could also be police involvement (vandalism or RTC investigations).

Off topic from your question but I thought you should know that the Outage has had an update this morning.

Current Situation: Cabinet has been knocked over in a road traffic accident. Repair planning and implementation in progress. (Reference) refers DSLAM incident (Reference). This incident raised to capture PSTN and LLU faults dropping in.

Estimated Completion Date: Mar 7 2025 4:48PM

Been pushed back I'm afraid, no surprise though, stuff like this usually takes a while.

I have also logged the outage update on your account so we can see it's still ongoing.

Hope this is helpful.
