The TL-WA850RE can be configured with a DHCP server. It can be configured as Auto, On or Off , see page 14/15 https://static.tp-link.com/res/down/doc/TL-WA850RE(EU)_V2_UG.pdf

It doesnt seem to define what Auto does

as @Dan_the_Van says having more than one DHCP server on the same subnet is a recipe for disaster

Hi all,

So we've had plusnet for over 7 years same router no problems and I use a Tenda powerline adaptor to get ethernet to my laptop. Later last year, the router went into a cycle and we got sent a new router, set it up fine and worked no problem.

Around Christmas time, I then started getting an error, this error was just applicable to LAPTOPS, iphones worked fine, firesticks fine, and it was that it would say No internet, secured. I tried everything, all the cmd commands, deleting wifi adapters etc. No fix. So thought that I should try the old router in, and that seemed to work for a period of time, then that had the same problem, No internet secured.

What seemed to work was changing the new router and old router over, and it would work for a day or two, I've looking into everything, it would do weird stuff such as disconnect if i connected and disconnected from a VPN, if I restarted my laptop it could cause the internet to stop working for laptops.

I've stopped using my Tenda powerline adapter at the moment to see if that works, but I am really stuck as to what is causing the router to stop connecting to Laptops, I have tried 5 laptops in the house, macs aswell and for some reason they all have the same problem.

It seems it could be a problem with my main laptop, is it a faulty wifi adapter that is affecting the router. I'm just baffled.

Any help would be great.

Lots of devices check some DNS server and use that as a way to check whether there is internet access, and report "No Internet" if that check fails, even if all other connections work.

There are a number of reasons such a check may fail, but a common one is the use of IPv6 - check whether the affected devices are using IPv6 and disable it if so.

Also try "ping 1.1.1.1" or similar - that will tell you whether there really is an internet connection.

Thank you for helping,

The reply to the ping was

C:\WINDOWS\system32> ping 1.1.1.1

Pinging 1.1.1.1 with 32 bytes of data:
Reply from 1.1.1.1: bytes=32 time=15ms TTL=57
Reply from 1.1.1.1: bytes=32 time=15ms TTL=57
Reply from 1.1.1.1: bytes=32 time=19ms TTL=57
Reply from 1.1.1.1: bytes=32 time=16ms TTL=57

Ping statistics for 1.1.1.1:
Packets: Sent = 4, Received = 4, Lost = 0 (0% loss),
Approximate round trip times in milli-seconds:
Minimum = 15ms, Maximum = 19ms, Average = 16ms

Also regarding IPv6, have switched it off, will see if it works.

Not sure what this means, and at the moment the wifi is working fine, but just found another problem, my laptop is connected to the router wifi fine, however other laptops cant connect to the router wifi they get No Internet Secured, but are able to connect to a TP LINK extender I have and can access the internet via that.

Then just now my main laptop has disconnected from the main router, but Im able to get an internet connection from a Wifi extender aswell.

Thanks

OK, the ping working shows that the device has an internet connection - did it think there was "No Internet" when you tried the ping?

And did you switch IPv6 off on the device or the router?

If you still have problems with a device check which DNS it is configured to use.

And when I did the ping, it was on this laptop while I was connected to the router wifi.

Switching it off on a device will only affect that device, while switching it off on the router will affect all devices - that may help if that is actually the problem.

You should be able to see what the DNS settings are in Network & Internet Settings, Properties

You can then try to ping that address. If it is set to the router's address then it may be that the router hasn't got its DNS set correctly (which should happen automatically).

You can always change your device to use an alternative DNS such as 1.1.1.1 or 8.8.8.8 to see if that makes it work. If not then the problem may be something else...

Just been reading some stuff online and its a very similar problem to this https://www.reddit.com/r/linux4noobs/comments/18wjtqq/can_connect_to_wifi_extender_but_not_router/?rdt=45539

I have two extenders and my devices will only connect to one of the extenders the other doesnt. So could this be due to the first response around IP range and DHCP client, I am unsure how to change this on plusnet is it to do with Authoritative DHCP? Should i turn it off?

I am guessing this is a Hub Two?

What is the make and model of wifi extender you are using, what IP Address does it currently have? Manually configured or using DHCP?

The Hub Two only has three LAN ports, you are not using the WAN port in error? The IP Address of the ethernet connection starts 169.254.... which is an address a network interface assumes if there is a network but no DHCP server.

One the Hub two looking at the broadband user name found >Advanced Settings >Broadband is it yours or setup@plusdsl.net

EDIT: you should only have one DHCP server on a network, I would use the Hub's
