Hi

I renewed my contract about a week ago, before i went away for a week and a bit.

Ive come back and my connection speed is a lot lower than what it was.

Previously i had been getting about 30Mbps, now its 1Mbps.

Can't see anything else that has changed aside from a new contract and a new hub.

Any suggestions on getting the speeds im paying for?

Given original download speed I guess you are on FTTC? Do you still have an operational phone line as well?

If so, have you tried the Quiet Line Test? Dial 17070, Option 2. Line should be sensible silent with no crackles etc.
Also, you can try a line test yourself by texting 'PHONE <landline number>' to 07800 008121

If no landline you will likely have to contact Plusnet Support directly for further help.

Or try here first: Help with your broadband service | Help | Plusnet

If there is some "scratching" something isn't right and FTTC broadband won't work properly on a phone line with noises.
In the first instance I would check all your inline plugs and sockets: rattle them around while listening on the Quiet Line Test. Unplug and plug then several times to see if this makes the noises go away, or trace the cause.

In particular, the user plate on the NTE (BT/Openreach master socket) can be noisy - notoriously the clip on plate on the newer NTE 5C master socket. Try jiggling that around and unplugging/plugging it.

Also you can try the router plugged directly into the NTE Test Socket, behind the consumer plate. This can help to establish if the problem is in your home wiring or is an external, Openreach issue.

It is most unlikely the contract renewal has altered anything physical on the network wiring.

Are you wired or wireless?

wireless.

though ive just ran another test and got a more expected 20Mbps.

can you see if something happened during the day to cause the drop, or could this just be teething problems as the new contract settles in.

WIFI works in a similar way to a motorway, some days you can go at 70Mbps, while others you're crawling at 5Mbps. WIFI can fluctuate in the same extreme ways based on where the router is positioned and other interferences so we're keen to confirm it is fine on ethernet
