How low will Plusnet slow down connection speeds to force FTTP uptake ?

Ever since the erection of the Fibre carrying posts and line wiring .. I have been Hard capped by Plusnet/ BT wholesale. And its beginning to get annoying.

Hard capping started last year (Data from Hub 2 Router logs) This started within a week of the new post ( leaning btw) being put up.

Previous speeds : on my 40/10 line .

01:53:26, 23 Oct. DSL Link Up: Down Rate=36438kbps, Up Rate=8132kbps;

To the 1st Hard cap Date 05/12/23

03:26:24, 05 Dec. DSL Link Up: Down Rate=30000kbps, Up Rate=7774kbps;

Made zero difference in any rebooting of router (at any time of day ) connection speed remained locked.

Then came April 3rd 2024 ;

04:32:35, 03 Apr. DSL Link Up: Down Rate=27400kbps, Up Rate=6993kbps;

No its nothing to do with copper this is a deliberate hard cap ( odds on getting exact synching stats are astronomical btw)

Then If you add Pnets changing of speeds for the area on thier website pages to the speeds they are capping to , some what laughable - if I were not paying for more for the subterfuge.

Oh I can get a 'Fibre' package - a further 4 Mbs slower than the 27.4Mbs I am being hard capped to ( guess where the next hard cap speed is going to hit ?)

Pretty soon I shall No doubt be at ADSL speeds In this rather pathetic marketing ploy.

@Ochso Your (edited) Tech stats say it all really - you have an elevated D/S SNR, which means the DLM hardware in the OR network is attempting to stabilise a bad line. What is your DSL uptime?

The 30 Mb Speed was steady as were my previous speeds 34Mb+ plus speeds.. yet to hit an exact amount every time the router reboots is a hard limit. I could live with 30 ( just about though MSFS no longer a viable past time for me) but the current state of affairs plus the inmpending next hard cap lowering is way out of line

So I vent.

As I said previously - you have a fault - until that is rectified, the DLM will continue to intervene. Once it is fixed - then is the time to ask PN for a DLM reset - IF the system doesn't automatically reset it.

As has been stated, Plusnet have no control over the speeds , it's down to the Openreach DLM.

What Plusnet should be doing, is arranging an Openreach engineer visit to investigate and fix the line problem

@Ochso because your line is unstable, the Openreach DLM has put you on lower and lower fixed speeds in an attempt to stop your connection constantly dropping out. You have a fault which needs Openreach to repair. Once the fault is gone, then a DLM reset will restore your normal speeds.

I've had broadband for 25 years, and I've NEVER had my line (when banded) recover automatically, it always needs manual intervention.

Im not holding my breath tbh . This is the "deal "thats being offerred to me And the speeds they are going to drop me into - one way or another.

Maybe its my paranoia who knows but that is A definitive slow down in offered speeds.

Just wish I had saved my router logs earlier Mind you that would have increased the frustration

Plusnet's offer speeds are individually calculated from Openreach's database, which is based on the current performance of your specific connection. While you have an ongoing fault, your reported range of line speeds will be lower than expected.

Once your line is repaired, then the numbers will recover to mirror the improved speeds.

The problem with Plusnet's offer speeds being calculated from the line's current speed, is that if the contract is accepted it is almost certain that the minimum guaranteed speed will be below the current speed - thereby ensuring that no action will be taken to get the speed back up to where it used to be.

Looks like the writing is on the wall for My area .. Current "Deals" being offered on FttC with a landline to new customers.

Bt Wholesale are probably using the Marketing equivalent of constructive dismissal.

For me it is more cost effective to have the VMedia 350 Package for my internet needs and let this current contract run its course. and keep my land line running for as long as possible.. Rather than cancellation , paying early termination and re-sourcing ..

Will see how well the engineer can stabilise the line again Still not holding my breath for anything like the speeds of 6 months ago
