topic Connection issues in Broadband

Thanks for the replies guys (all). I asked around and my fibre connection stops at a box some 300 yards away and becomes copper. It is underground. When I said "no connection" I meant that at times there is no data transfer in any direction. What is so annoying is this intermittent connection status and the widely fluctuating data speeds for down and up loading. At best I see 1.6Mbps (I once saw 1.7Mbps) but generally 1.2 - 1.4Mbps - not brilliant but adequate perhaps.
Since writing this I have checked the probable speeds of some other providers and perhaps it is an Openreach issue as there is not a massive difference despite the headline speeds based on post code.
Also noted yesterday that XLN Business internet has massive issues in Sunderland and Newcastle areas (and across the UK).
Perhaps I have been unjust to Plusnet but in 2023 you expect these issues to be yesteryear.....

Yes, you are being unfair to plusnet as it's almost certain your problems lie within the Openreach network and so will follow you wherever your ISP. Until early this year I had a similar connection to yours, ie FTTCabinet 300m away with underground ducting to a pole and overhead line into the house, dead steady 37MB and 9MB upload.

Suggest you try a quiet line test by dialling 17070 and following instructions. Ideally you should plug into the test socket behind the outer cover to eliminate any extensions within your property. You should hear nothing except regular announcements of the test. Snap, crackle and pops are bad news for BB and are probably poor connections between you and the cabinet ... back to Openreach via Plusnet to sort them out.

Let us know how you get on.

@winlinuser When I suggested you posted in this board, I also meant in your own topic - 'piggy-backing' on another posters (solved) issue is not useful for those trying to help, and is also bad etiquette/against forum rules.

To expand @Longliner 's comment, I suggest you follow this procedure:

First thing to check: Is your phoneline clear? Dial 17070 (preferably from a corded phone), select option 2. Once your phone number is confirmed, there should be silence on the line except for the regular 'Quiet Line Test' message - any other noise, report a PHONE problem via: https://www.plus.net/help/report-a-problem/phone/

If the phone test passes, report a broadband problem via: https://www.plus.net/help/report-a-problem/broadband/

Let us know the result - if the tests come back as clear but you still have a problem, we need to investigate further.

The above assumes you still have 'normal' landline connection - if you have a SOGEA (internet only) one, just use the second link to report a network issue.
